Burnley seasons.....

1st tier - 53
2nd tier - 46
3rd tier - 11
4th tier - 7

Brighton seasons......,

1st tier - 4
2nd tier - 22
3rd tier - 56
4th tier - 7

You can knock a dozen or so seasons off Burnley's 1st tier number for when it was an exclusive club for league entry, if you like 'Data'point.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo, but for those missing our resident LOON

1: We won the Charity Shield once
2: Rochdale at home in the 70's attracted a 30,000 plus gate
3: Palace at home to Brizzle City a few years ago didn't
4: He doesn't attend matches but because his granddaddy was born in Sussex he is a better Albion fan than you.

If we were where they were at this point in the season and had just scraped a point in injury time when all looked lost, having been outplayed for much of the match, then we'd be going bananas too. That was a massively vital goal in the context of their season (and ours unfortunately).

I've always been largely indifferent to Burnley, but by the time I arrived at The Cyclist on Saturday afternoon I was overflowing with Barton-inspired loathing and would tell anyone who would listen that I wanted "anyone but Burnley" to go up.

We then spent a few hours in the company of a couple of Burnley fans and by the time we parted ways some time and many pints later, I had chilled about the whole thing. They are a club run the right way by (I am led to believe) life-long fans. Given the size of the place and the close proximity to many more glamorous options, they are remarkably well-supported and have done amazingly well. It's hard to be bitter about a proper old football club like Burnley doing well.

I still ****ing hate Joey Barton though.

For your positive experience with burnley fans, I can offset it with my experience of being told:

- We're a bunch of diving pansies
- 2-2 was a fair result on balance of play
- Barton outplayed Kayal
- Kayal is a feigning cheat
- Brighton is small, burnley is big
- Football is new to 'the south'

None of which were said under the influence, well under much influence anyway. Maybe the nature of the result brought out the worst in people, but they were some of the worst exchanges i've had with fans coming down here.

Brighton / Hove actually
Anyone would think that Burnley had already mathematically secured promotion. With 21-24 points available, respectively between the top 4, promotion is everyone’s to lose or win. It is very close and the top two spots could be decided on the last game of the season.

I got talking to some Burnley fans after the game. I said that if Burnley were playing in my back garden, I would pull the curtains. One of their number replied: “I know what you mean, mate, we don’t like watching us either.” They also said that our game is better suited to the PL and that, if we go up, we will stay up.

Yep I am sorry to say this has been my experience as well.
Oh and 'Joey' is a real man playing a 'real man's game'.... as opposed to.....
I can believe this is a well run club etc but some of the supporters with whom I have had exchanges are clearly aggressively homophobic and seem to profess sentiments that belong to a past era eg 1970s. To my surprise, they seem to have a massive chip on their shoulders - but I suppose that is due to all the footballing competition nearby.

However, there is no excuse for their vitriolic abuse; after all, apart from occupying top position in the division which we all envy, there is little to recommend the footballing prowess of their team. I think they may discover that fact when they face Middlesbrough - but we'll see....

The subject of an away day at Brighton came up and unsurprisingly they spoke very positively about the whole thing, including the Amex becoming a massive pub after the game, where fans were free to mix in all concourses. They did say that there was no way that could work at Turf Moor as a sizeable minority of their fans would want to bash a Southerner instead of having a friendly beer and discuss the game.

Again, I believe you are correct.
Some of them belong to a past era - and are proud of the fact!
Still, time to move on as the focus should now be Birmingham rather than the knuckle draggers.

You will be defending Joey Barton next. I imagine that anyone who puts one over on us, by fair means or foul, is all right in your book.

Very much this.

Their run in is no cakewalk. Cardiff, Birmingham, Middlesbrough and Preston. Can see a few points dropped from those games.

I sat in the WSU and watched proceedings in near-disbelief, thinking that we had been mugged by cheats again. Perhaps it is time that we started behaving like a bunch of thieving, cheating ****s. We might actually get somewhere if we did.

No stick to being the holier than you club who sneers at any club you deem hasn't done it the Brighton way ( albeit with a £200+ gift , sorry loan ) .

Sorry what had this got to do with Palace? Please concentrate on your trip to Wembley and securing your premiership place. Apologies if you or Palace were mentioned and you came on back up your club, but think you are just putting your nose in again. My take was Barton was being bossed in midfield, did not like it, was told by Daish or whatever his croaky one is called to 'do him', he did we were less effective, ref did buggar all, nor will the FA. Move on to
Next game, we are a far better side than Burnley and to be honest not all their fans are bad, bit like Palace, there are some nice ones, honest.

At least the Brighton way doesn't involve two administrations. We paid our way as a club but maybe we should have just overspent and gone into administration so we could be in the Premier League.

What a load of tosh. Bristol is a great city. Lincoln is a great city. How come the Gas and the Imps aren't in the top flight?

By all means point to the investment being made in our academy and the professional way the club is run, but don't make silly claims about city status as a reason for knocking Burnley or others.

This whole 'Burnley is a dump' attitude sits really uncomfortably with me. It make NSC look like a bunch of jumped up arrogant idiots.

In the interest of balance, here is a link to the Wycoller Village & Park near Burnley. Looks lovely. Rather like Stamner Park.

I admire Bristol – a truly great city! Shame they have to split their loyalties two ways – big handicap! Hopefully one day they can fulfil their potential. (Also Plymouth!)

There are dozens of towns larger than the beautiful city of Lincoln. Which sort of proves my point.

Who said Burnley is a dump? Not I. My default position is to respect everyone and everywhere. I was going to mention in my original post that one thing that Brighton and Burnley share is glorious countryside. I have friends from Burnley.

Eastbourne, Worthing, Hastings for example, are all larger towns though and without being disrespectful, what odds would you give for these fine boroughs to be playing in the Premier League within the next 50 years.

Look at this and see if you can recognise a pattern?

In the battle with Barton for midfield supremacy, it was so easy for Kayal that he might as well have got his cigars out.

Joey Barton might just be intelligent enough to understand the allusion.
