It's probably a lot to do with trying to raise the profile and perceived standard of the American game.

People will now say if Beckham's still prepared to play there, while he's more or less still got it, then it must be on the up, and it will then attract other players from Europe rather than just unheard of South Americans and Caribbean players.

What annoyes me is he is still good enough to play for England, and whats more, he's one of the big earners that actually looks like he really wants it. :nono:

5 year deal, to play til he's 37
wont play til he's finished his contract at real madrid

every team in the MLS has a salary cap of $500,000 dollars a month.
£200k a month, how much will he be on

I heard on the news this morning that the average soccerball player gets what the average Septic earns, which is about 40k a year

I think it's a shame. He always seemed to be a player that looked like he actually gave a shit. He's still good enough to play in the top leagues of Europe, he's still good enough to play for England yet he's gone to America.:nono: Just so he can raise his and her profiles over there? He's a sell out.

f***ing disgusting.

Tremendous talent that the English game has lost to the yanks who dont even like football!!!

Still good luck to him and when people moan about the lack of British talent in the Premiership, we can all point at people like Wenger who would rather play some bloke from Sierra leone that nuture Englaish talent.

alternatively we could point at players and agents who have priced their less than totally talented players out of the market thus causing clubs to look at cheaper options.

Beckham is very much the exception rather than the rule. The last world cup showed that we have some of the highest paid players but some of the poorest talent.

Football changes at times and, mostly, it 'progresses' or 'forwards' in it's physicality, speed and fitness. Beckham can not currently succeed or be appreciated with his lack of pace, immobility, visionary restrictions and merely sporadic involvement. He's a dunce too. Difficult to love a dunce, i think.

David Beckham will leave Real Madrid and join Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy at the end of the season.

The 31-year-old former England captain will sign a five-year deal, reportedly worth £128m.

So about £500k a week. I guessed I'd be convinced by that too...

No coincidence that United have not won a Premiership title since his departure. Not as good as he was but still could do a job for most Premiership teams, and especially for England.

McClaren had to dump him to prove he was 'in charge'. Huge mistake. Beck's didn't have a great World Cup but he had a better one than Lamps or Gerrard and scored or assisted in most of our goals. The three of them in midfield didn't work (not the fault of any of them - that's just the way it was) and Lamps should have been dropped, not Becks. Now he plays Gerrard on the right and he's wasted there!

Forget the lifestyle and the mega-earnings - that's nothing to do with what goes on on the field. He has always given 100% effort and passion for club and country. A tragedy that he is not back in the Premiership.
