I'm sure all will be well but the worry has to be that someone else will be in contact with him this morning.

Fingers crossed. It's going to be a horrible day until we get the news.

Sharp thinking by Poyet as he lines up 'The Dagger' for Albion

ALBION are ready to put their Championship rivals to the sword with the signing of Spanish ace Vicente.

The former Valencia star and Spain international, nicknamed ‘The Dagger’, has been lined up by the Seagulls on a free transfer.

Vicente, 30, pictured, was in Brighton yesterday for talks with boss Gus Poyet and passed a medical without any problems.

The transfer window closed at 11pm last night with no official confirmation from the club, although the deal did not have to be completed before the deadline since Vicente is a free agent.

The Argus understands an announcement will be made once a few minor contract issues have been resolved.

Poyet told The Argus last night: “I’ll be delighted if it goes through. It’s massive for us.

“Who would have thought we would be signing a player who has played in the Champions League and won La Liga twice?”

Rodrigues, a left winger also capable of playing as an auxillary striker or roving midfielder, has an eyecatching pedigree.

Real Madrid made a bid of nearly £32 million for him during an 11-year career with Valencia, which included two La Liga titles under Rafael Benitez and the Copa del Rey.

The 5ft 10ins ex-Levante wide man’s long stay with Valencia was soured when he blamed the medical staff for continuing injury problems, which led to a club fine.

Rodrigues, capped 38 times by Spain, ended up vying for a place in the Valencia team with Juan Mata, Chelsea’s recent £24 million purchase.

He played for his country in Euro 2004 in Portugal and has been linked with a move to the Premier League at various stages of his career to clubs including Manchester United, Arsenal and Blackburn Rovers.

Albion already have lots of competition in wide attacking areas, with Craig Noone, Kazenga LuaLua and Will Buckley in their table-topping squad, but the chance to add a player of Rodrigues’ quality and versatility for no fee without breaking the wage structure is regarded by Poyet as too good to miss.

He said: “Everyone thinks he is a winger but, because of his age and understanding of the game, he can play as a second striker, on the right, in the middle. The main thing is his quality. He is Premier League, La Liga and Champions League quality.

“He wants to play football and enjoy it. It’s not about the money for him any more.

“When a player like that becomes available and it is within our budget, without doing anything stupid, then it’s perfect.”

The capture of Vicente will more than make up for Albion being unable to conclude a deal for Leeds striker Billy Paynter, although he could still end up with the Seagulls on loan.

I actually agree with this, many clubs will have missed targets like Newcastle.... and I would be certain there are some clubs higher up the food chain, who may be willing to take a punt and try to snatch Vicente from under our noses.

Look what happened with that Korean bloke at Arsenal, all deal agreed in France, had his medical, then whilst they waited for him to simply show up between medical and club to sign contract, he disappeared (agent on phone), and next thing he's at Arsenal.

There is a fair chance somebody will come in and try and snatch Vicente until its done

Christ, half the people hadn't heard of the fella this time yesterday now its life or death whether we sign him or not.

Get a grip. Go out, relax and enjoy the last warm day of the year. By the time you get back he may or may not have signed, or he may have signed for Palace.

Football fans eh.

Shoved it in the sea?

Shove it up his ass, or throw it in the sea. No shoving into the sea, nor throwing up his ass.

Otherwise, I agree. Carry on.
