thats its, whats winding me up, that fact that the crime is ignored because people buy into the poor lamb, he didnt mean it and dont you think 60 years is too much defence. end of it all, he did, apparently, commit a crime and not just be a dickhead (thats more his timing).

I would suspect that he knew what he was doing was illegal and he knew his success in this hacking would cause problems, embarassment and some financial implication for those he hacked.

But the vigour at which the USA seems to have demanded his extradition and the willingness for us to give him up suggests that he may well be looking at long term imprisonment.

He isn't a particular threat to anyone today and is probably a intelligent guy that I feel needn't have his life ruined.

Punish him for sure, but to see him thrown to the wolves by our own government makes me feel uneasy.

Anyone who has experience of knowing or living with anyone with asperger's syndrome will roll their eyes at some of the idiotic statements in this thread. I would suggest a Google of the subject in order to gain a better understanding.

Aside from that, there is no way we should be deporting a UK Citizen who committed an alleged offence on UK soil using a treaty that was intended to be used to extradite terrorist suspects. The Americans were made to look stupid by an obsessed computer expert with an autistic disability & now want to ruin the mans life all out of proportion with the crime. They should be employing him not persecuting him.

This saga is yet another example of this governments persistant brown nosing to the US regime(s). If the US are seeking the extradition of Gary McKinnon, the UK and rest of Europe should be seeking the extradition of Bush & his discredited bunch (including Blair) for War crimes.

right or wrong I think the yanks are attacking this from the wrong direction. He only wanted information on UFOs.
They should employ him as a consultanat on internet security. If he did it then he can probably do it again and show them where the holes are before some real crazy bastard does

I think thats part of the problem, the US then spent $millions on fixing, upgrading security etc!

right. just like if someone broke into your house and said they just wanted to play on your playstation/trainset/whatever, you'd just think that was fine?

he's defended it from the wrong direction: go willingly, plea bargin, probably have served time by now and indeed be working for some government agency here or there. in fact, discussions on other forums suggest he was offered 5 years for a guilty plea.
