Haven't gone through the whole thread, so this might be a duplicate, but anyone who says 'hisself' instead of 'himself' is a cretin of the first order.

Some IDIOTS seem to say 'we'll lose' instead of 'we're loose' :dunce:

Not when you here them saying "There were free of them" & you are not sure whether they were telling you how many there were or that someone had been liberated from something.
I am not talking about dialect (heaven only knows I can't say "the" correctly) but about the sloppy use of the English language.

Here, here!

I have seen the term a low sense of gravity used a few times recently, to the point I had to check i was right.

I have seen the term a low sense of gravity used a few times recently, to the point I had to check i was right.

I had to read that three times before realising the mistake, as obvious as it is.

For years my wife has been saying "it's a blessing in the skies" rather than "it's a blessing in disguise". To be fair this one kind of makes sense and English isn't her first language, however I also caught her out saying "Bobs your ankles" rather than "Bob's your uncle".

A couple of other ones I've heard from a mate who has a bit of a reputation for mangling his words:

"Two stones with one blow"
"Looking for a needle in a hedge"

Over to you NSC

Fascinating thread with all the sayings:

Which is right?
a) he is older than me.
b) he is older than I

I had a French chap working with me a few years ago - .. having given him some positive feedback about an interaction with a customer, he came back that the order he had secured was (And genuinely try and read this in your best 'Allo 'Allo French accent to get the full effect) " Yeeees.. the order was the Cherry on the icing!"

One wintry day at school in the late 60s, we kids were throwing snowballs everywhere. No one dared, in those days, throw a snowball at the teachers, but when the french assistant came along, he was fair game and the barrage started. One hit him on the head and he shouted at us" that's not funny bloody" . .

My old nan was enthusiastically describing an octopus she'd seen at an aquarium once, and came out with "you should have seen the size of his testicles!"

Not sayings but thoroughly bad grammar, as espoused on the Planet Earth thread

Plurals do not have apostrophes. The plural of hero is heroes.

Gggrrrrrrrr!!!

My nephew said the exact opposite at school in a biology lesson about male and female bodies. He said he had tentacles.

My eldest son had a girlfriend that would come out with wrong sayings all the time, we were at a wedding abroad and she said to me " I'm so thirsty I could drink a horse "

Hither (sometimes Thither)
An ex some years back amusingly said that she hated to see footage of when the Japanese mercilessly lampoon a whale. She didn't understand my impersonation of our eastern chums mocking a blubbersome sea mammal for the next few hours.
