Tony Hawkes (the comedian not the skateboarder) is an Albion fan, maybe he'd do something.

Right - this has gone from egg to embryo stage. :)

We have a provisional date in the diary of WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 24th - at the Komedia in Brighton.

TLO - sorry to hear of the problems you have had, but the difference is that I am *hiring* the venue, not asking for it to be donated. I am under-writing any loss as well so if the night does not get enough punters in, I lose out, not the club. But this won't happen, will it gang, if *everyone turns up* :D :D :D

Any one thought about approaching Kevin Day (comedian, radio five live, channel five presenter)

He's a die hard Palace fan which is comedy value enough. He is also a very good compere.

I saw him compere a benefit at the Banana Cabaret in Balham....

......i think we have a perfectly good compere already!

I wonder if Kevin Day would be up for being put in the 'stocks'?

A pound a pop to throw rotten fruit at him!

On an equally less serious note, but hopefully achievable, could be get Bob Mercury to come along and give us a song?

random thoughts:

1 'Seagull-stock' (laughing stock sounds a bit negative)

2 I can't see the night not making a profit (so I can't see you at being at any risk per-se)

3 If Komedia are not prepared to provide the facilities gratis (and I dare say the take at the bar would be a good deal more than they would ever get for a night of Flamenco dancing or the normal midweek shenanigans) then I'm sure a bit of publicity would help secure some sponsorship for the night to cover basic costs.

4 Anyone gonna approach AMEX to throw something our way? They're well into bigging themselves up on how much they do for the community but I'm not aware that they've ever done anything for the club - maybe they have a few too many nimby cardholders, but this sort of thing might be indirect enough for them to chuck something in, e.g pay for some printing and make each ticket for the night a raffle ticket for a big holiday or something?????????

I'll ask Kevin if he wants to do a set - he's directing my 2005 Edinburgh Festival show, so he might.

Just so you all know, the intention is for this to be a night of top-notch stand up, not a variety night. Not dissing it, but I just want it to be as commercially succesful as possible and the best way to do that is for the evening to have the widest appeal - i.e., you don't have to be a diehard Albion fan to enjoy it.

Please note the date is awaiting conformation which is why no names as yet can be confirmed - but I will keep the board and this thread updated as soon as there are any updates.

Well done Steve, looks like it will be a cracker of a night.

Any idea how many the Komedia holds?
