I think that is what that annoys people, It was a waste of the money - You can get decent players for that amount.

he was a decent player - as is shown by the level he is at now - just a shame that from day one he looked completely lazy and as though he couldnt give a shit, which suggests we were always just going to be a quick stop stepping stone for him

Although, it is unfair to say the money was 'wasted' as it was recouped in full when he left.

and we never saw it again :jester:

maybe that was the plan all along, sign a player with the money, sell on him on a year later so effectively the money went into the running costs

Waste of space. Big Time Charlie. In the said article, CKR all but calls Albion a tiny, insignificant club that he is glad to be rid of. The feeling's mutual.

As the writer of the Times article, I have to point out that the need to cram the best bits of a fairly long interview into 750 words meant that most Albion-related stuff (which, it has to be said, is of limited interest to the majority of Times readers) had to be left out. That may have given the impression that CKR didn't regard his time with Albion as important, but is actually far from the truth. In fact, he told me he is still in touch with a number of the players and checks the club website every day.

A longer version of the Times piece is scheduled to go in the club programme for (I think) the Gillingham match.

Thanks for clearing that up, as no doubt you are aware the opinions of CKR do vary somewhat amongst Albion fans, few doubt the skill that the young man posesses and many wish that he had tried a little harder to prove his detractors wrong.

Nice little article.
I've always got the impression that he is a very humble young man. There seems to be a bit of sour grapes on here and an unfair misreading of his attitude towards us. After all, not every ex-player is going to be in love with the club nor should thay be. He was only here for a short time...can we really expect him to be eulogising about BHA everytime he is interviewed?! You do always get the impression that he is wholly grateful for the chance we gave him. Top bloke as far as i'm concerned and good luck to him.

I don't disagree with your sentiment denilson, but all I ask from anyone who pulls on the stripes is that they give 110% effort whenever they play...I can think of plenty who have, regardless of their respective skill levels (Wilson, Foster, Chapman, OGH, Mayo...to name but a few), I am just firmly of the opinion that CKR rarely raised his game past about 75.

Yep, f*** him.

Edit: Just read Not Andy Naylor and Jam the Man - I may reconsider my attitude towards him now.

I can back that up... he is incredibly grateful that the club have him a chance. It's just that other things occured which soured it a bit and cut short the stay.

"Roberto helped me a lot. When you’re young and people tell you things, you think, ‘Why is this guy telling me to do this?’ But when Roberto Carlos tells you to run back, you remember that he’s played 118 Champions League games, won three Champions Leagues, three World Cups - you go to his house and there are pictures of him with Pelé.”

Whilst I think McGhee didn't handle him at all well and effectively through away a huge talent (and transfer fee) it does seem a tad childish to only listen to peolple if they've been photographed with Pele.

The interview seems to confirm the view that he was well above his station and wasn't going to apply himself until he was at a club that he felt he deserved.

My sentiments exactly. I hate those types of player who don't listen to the wizened 'little man' who more often than not will have as much (or even more) useful advice. It's about perspective and boys like CKR don't gauge this - is it that they aren't given advice to listen to advice? i.e parents? Or do they develop the large chips on their shoulders all by themselves? That he was fourth choice behind midfielders given his obvious potential rather suggests his attitude was much to blame.

Have just read Not Andy Naylor's (like the username ) post, which may give better perspective on the matter, but still maintain his lack of real impact was for my above stated reason.

Do you still stay in contact with him ?

I've actually only met the guy a total of TWICE! LOL!
However, I hear regularly from his dad and occasionally from a guy linked to his agent.
