Depends on what the fine detail of what the loan deal includes I guess for me, no doubting his talent and ability to play at the highest level. Represented the best team in Europe regularly and involved in England U21 International football, if this was announced as a full transfer a lot of people would be happy.

Why shouldn't we benefit from the loan market? we send enough players out to other teams to develop them at their time/expense. Its going to be a tough season this year with player fatigue being a factor, look at how we struggled with the number of games at the end of last season.

For me if the report is true and the fine details dont hamper our ability to continue to develop our own players its a no brainer.

I’ve had a poke around a city forum

It seems that whilst he was given chances last year he perhaps didn’t take them and the excitement levels around him have dampened, with the caveat that he was recovering from an injury.

With the best optimistic will in the world we need to build a squad for just 1 year in the Europa League. No guarantees for a repeat in 2024/25. So a couple of loans makes sense in this context.
You beat me to it. We don’t want to end up with a 26-28 man squad only to have to dismantle 25% of it in 12 months time if we don’t re qualify for Europe.
I have no problems with a loan if it a) strengths us, b) frees up money to be spent elsewhere.
If we got this lad and Colwill again on 1 season loans for 23/24 I’d be pretty happy.

Yes. The immediate task at hand is to be competitive this coming season in the league, domestic cups and europa league. Take the loans, see where we are in June next year.

Palmer played superbly at the Amex recently. Both Lewis and Palmer were excellent. I doubt there's any chance of him coming but I'd take him in a heartbeat.

I agree, took over from and looked just as dangerous as Foden imo, but quite a few on here don’t rate him

I half agree with you, but on the specifics, in this case, this is one area I don't think we especially need to strengthen. We need more depth at the back not the front at the moment.
On the other hand I have also seen rumours we're trying to get Colwill's U21 England partner Hardwood - Belli's from Man City on loan. But I suspect that is nonsense as well.

Again, what people are forgetting isn't this kids ability, it's that realistically he's not going to get anymore minutes here than he would at City. That's why he won't join. Unless you're suggesting sacking off the likes of Sarmientos development for one year of Palmer.

Still the same old nonsense about loans and why they are bad for the club. I guess it it goes back to the days when we didn't have a pot to p*ss in so the strategy was to beg for any cast offs. Time has moved on , we can afford to be choosey. Agreed it would be great to own and retain all the best players in the world but we never will in that position so getting in a quality loan if we need it should not be a problem to people . The last loanee we had was a major success (glass half full) so no issue if we have to go out to that market again. Ironically had he not been very good we might have been able to buy him but that's the chance we take.

Regards Palmer , does look good but I suspect we might have more need of his team mate Harwood-Bellis and we can only have one loan from them.
