Mill Road is rammed by 13:00, so that leaves those of us travelling from the West the choice of parking miles further into the Brighton traffic storm, completely defeating the object of p&r concept......

Since the club has hardly bent over backwards in the last two years to help those who have little choice other than to drive, there's not much likelihood of them doing anything at the moment.
Eh? You mean apart from negotiating with the University to use their car park; apart from leasing a field next to the ground to offer more parking and apart from implementing three (free) P&R sites?
All of this for a site that's next to a train station and served by three nearby bus services.
Now, what have the Romans ever done for us?

So your answer would be which site?
It [Patcham Court Farm] was subsequently suggested for a 900 space park & ride site to ease the City's traffic problem but this would have required the demolition of 5 houses and the loss of 35 allotments, besides producing an enormous increase of traffic in a still semi-rural area. After a vigorous campaign of opposition from local residents, allotment holders, local councillors, and the Preston & Old Patcham Society, the plan was withdrawn in Jan 1996.
The council needs to get the best deal it can for that land, and a P&R would not be among those that can be the best deal. If the club did look at it for P&R would be another which comes under 'a temporary arrangement'.
Have you seen the look on the faces of the poor souls who cannot get on at M'Scoombe..? Would say you need to get a 1.45 train at the very latest.

What about Ladies Mile? The land on Carden Avenue opposite Asda, only really been home to some travellers recently and could provide quick access back onto the bypass.
That's within the boundaries of the South Down National Park - will be hard to build on that. Given that we're surrounded by sea and a national park, it's going to be hard to find somewhere.
I really don't understand the need for another P&R. As Alan has already said, the existing ones are under-used, that tells me that another one would be surplus to requirements

Didn't the club apply for, and receive planning permission for a park & ride somewhere around Hollingbury Asda when at Withdean? Due to the drop off in crowds, that park & ride was never utilised.
Is that planning permission still current? If so, would that site be a feasible option to take the pressure off Mill Road?

But the other two are. It's pretty simple to me, use of them or find an alternative route. There's certainly no need for the tens of thousands that another P&R would cost.
It was used for a couple of matches but caused so much congestion for the retail outlets around there it was dropped..

I always thought that Ditchling Road from Old Boat Corner to Woodbourne Garage could be used in a similar way to Mill Hill, but there would be an issue with the busses making the turn into/from Coldean Lane.

......or as in my experience coming in from the west, they are in the wrong place to cater for the numbers correctly.....more spaces are needed for those coming from the west, why do you expect us to effectively drive beyond the ground and then battle with almighty jams just to start our return journeys?....

You're right, it's not. But it would still cost a heap of money to convert to a P&R site, probably a couple of million with an access road. I'd really rather the club spent the money on players or reducing its debt than committing more funds to a P&R that's not actually needed

Oh I wouldn't presume to offer suggestions...I will leave that to those in the know, there are plenty of those types about....I have no idea what land is available, suitable or even desirable..... But the West needs some help.
But why does it? There are probably only a few dozen people coming from the West country, should the club really be spending a couple of million quid, that could be spent on new players, on a new P&R site?

Ha, well you do actually need to remove those blinkers,.....its not just for those like me who come from the far west country, think of all those from west of say Hove....the coast road from southampton is full of Albion cars heading to the Amex , all the towns away from the coast and thus a railway link, people coming in diwn the a23 from london and the m4 corridor......its fairly busy hence why mill road gets rammed very early in the day.
You only have to see the numbers coming in on the west coast trains to see how much western demand there is.
