Parking restrictions didn't work at Withdean so why should they work in Coldean? There is no way of differentiating a resident from a matchday fan (other than parking permits of course, which wouldn't happen).

I have parked legally and considerately in Coldean for 50% of the home matches so far. I have yet to see any sort of problem up there.
Perry, and others of the same opinion need to shut their wingeing.

Have to say Ive parked a coldean for every game....some admittedly at a relative..but the majority not....parked legally and at times further away than I need to in an area where this are plenty of spaces..as regards to Saturdays I work right up until the last possible moment as I am self employed and need to....and only get to the ground 5 mins b4 kickoff...no other method of transport would work for me....there r other reasons but I don't feel I have to share everything.

Clearly transport is such an issue we all know that ....plus maybe the green politics...Perry is going to be kissing a lot of ***** ....but I guess someone has to do it

Perry has said they will tackle it, but in reality what has been the problem areas? I have been parking in Coldean for the last half a dozen games, and have parked ( after my 3 hour drive from Somerset), sensibly and legally on a public road, not blocking anyone.

Can I assume then that people have been taking liberties and therefore spoiling a useful spot for the rest of us.?

Albion fans in massive numbers ignored those silly blue signs (once they realised they carried no force) and the stewards,
and parked throughout South West Patcham, Withdean and Westdene, in the 1999 to 2011 era on match days.

I had no problem with it all, and nor did the quiet majority of residents.

One or 2 vocal types whinged.

I wonder if little will happen in those 2 estates.

Perry has to say the 'right' things. As far as I know there are only a minority of residents who complain, just as it's only a minority of parkers who 'do it wrong'.

A £100 parking permit gives people the option of parking without charge for several hours a day, six days a week, 52 weeks of the year. The scheme I've floated would apply on no more than 30 occasions a year and then only for a few hours.

And 90% of people would accept that - there's always a small minority who'll moan. Just as a small minority moan about the additional parking in Coldean.

I have to drive on weeknight matches as I leave work late and drive. I put the bike on the rack park at the very top of Coldean lane (No parking issues there) and cycle like the clappers.

The issue with parking is the ignorance of people trying to get as close to the bottom as possible. If your fit and healthy why not park near the top literally only takes a 5-10 mins extra walk. The other week I saw people parked on the triangle out the front of the Hikers pub, that sort of inconsiderate parking is always going to raise eyebrows and the 4 yes 4 traffic wardens I saw were rubbing there hands with glee.

It would not surprise me if we saw some local residents in Coldean concreting there gardens and opening carparks.

As a kid I lived in Goldstone Crescent. We always used to get cars parking across our drive for the games at the Goldstone. I remember once in the early 90s for a midweek game a West Ham fan actually parked on the drive, so my brother and I went at his car with a hammer and slashed the tyres. Parking on the verges, inconsiderate parking - this is not Albion supporters every fortnight, this is Coldean residents every day of the week!

That's why most Coldean residents are not making a great deal of fuss over this issue as any clamp-down on parking in the area will affect them all the time.

I'd suggest most are happy to put up with a few hours of this 25 times a year rather than risk drawing attention to their own 24/7 parking issues.

And in even MASSIVER numbers ... Albion fans complied with the restrictions.

There may not be a problem at the moment. But it all comes down to numbers. If there are 8,000 extra fans wanting to get into the stadium and NOTHING is done to provide extra transport facilities, leaving all the extra supporters to travel by car, then there WILL be a problem.

So ... SOMETHING needs to be done. The question is: What? And should this include some sort of enforceable controlled parking in Moulsecoomb and/or Coldean?

Absolutely this! I'd also suggest, many Albion fans are more conscientious about how they park in this area than the locals due to the fact they know the issue is contentious? Unless many Fans drive work vans to games, many of the vehicles parked on the grass verges in the Park Road/Rushlake Road area are these type.

The bloke with the clip board will get back in his box when faced down- as did Westminster Council. Brighton is a tourist town. There is a need to make peoples life easy, not difficult so to attract visitors. There is plenty of parking in East Brighton. There is no problem, except that some idiot stops people parking the other side of the Lewes road from the Hikers Rest. so if he wants something to do then maybe he can write some pointless report to allow people to park the other side of the lewes Road to tell us all what we already know - that parking should be allowed the other side of the Lewes Road from the Hikers rest.

Why do you think working class people believe in public sector workers taking huge taxes, massive pensions, numerous holidays and whinge at any chance of progress just so to pay for their easy street lifestyle whilst there are people in genuine need? It is possible to believe the free market will help services for the most needed. Privatising school providers so that every child has a school that competes against another would be a start (but with the fees paid for by the gov). This would at least make the teachers turn up to work for more than 5 weeks without at least a week off.

That is the difference, you are self employed and not institutionalised like the public sector workers in the council who are just itching to give themselves something to do. You know parking is fine and they should open up parking the other side of the lewes road. in fact we all know that but instead some idiot at the council wants to champion a system where you drive to a park and ride and then be driven again to the ground. Of course it wastes time and is not green at all because it means more driving not less by using the p&r. However simple logic is neither here nor there to them as they just want to perpetuate a myth that they have created so to justify their salary that we are paying for.

The other thing to bare in mind is that there won't be an extra 8000 people for every game. For the most part, an extra 3/4 thousand for many games (some less, big games more).

Anyway, until the permission is signed/granted, the club need to appear to be taking ALL views/concerns into consideration. Better to listen then ignore (or not) than to not listen in the first place. To not do so would jeopardise the plans.

well i live in coldean and have no problems with the parking issues, there are 3 cars in my household and we always move them into the garden so there is more parking for my fellow fans.

You my friend need to voice your opinions more publically in support of the club. Your voice could be crucial in assisting the smooth acceptance of the plan, but also to help those of us driving in from the West who have little option, and cause little disruption in Coldean by parking legally and sensibly.
