What they need to do is figure out where people are coming from and why they are parking there.
I parked there (legally, away from congestion near the pub) as I come from a village in the north (no public transport) and Mill Road is full (you may say, leave earlier, but if everyone did that the same problem exists, it's just gets full even earlier! It's a capacity issue, not a timing one). The other P&Rs require driving through Brighton causing even MORE congestion. Also, apart from anything else, those parking a mile or two away are WALKING to the stadium reducing the congestion at the Amex itself.

Mill Rd for those coming from the West.
I think they need a P&R near/in Pyecombe for all those coming from the north down the A23.
Another between the stadium and Lewes for those coming from the East.

The buses can disembark somewhere on the A27 (or outside the uni etc.) and then carry on to one of the other (so they don't have to turn around or go actually up to the stadium itself)

Anyway, as I see it, there is plenty of parking all the way up Coldean. The main issue is inconsiderate/illegal parking which they need parking attendants to address/ticket/clamp etc. Those parking safely, legally, a little further away from the pub aren't really causing any trouble at all.

And remember, the more people that don't drive, the more that will need to use the buses/trains etc. The likes of I'm-alright-Jack-storer-68 will soon start complaining when their preferred journey becomes a nightmare as all the drivers that used to park in Coldean/Mou.... start using his buses/trains instead..... The more "spread" of transport options, the better it will be. Trying too much to stop one type of journey will just cause more overload on the others. Then there's the risk of less people coming to games as it takes too much time and too much hassle.

I have no idea if people are parking inconsiderately or not - blocking drives and the like - but it's clear the roads were absolutely swamped with cars. Cars lined most roads on both sides - sometimes bumped onto kerbs or verges and it made traffic difficult as there were very few places where cars could pass each other, and there were plenty of cars crawling around the area to try and find any available spots.

So, whether my drive was blocked or not, if I was a resident and needed to get in and/or out of the area, I don't think I'd be particularly happy.
Too be fair though, as someone who knows the area very well, the lower half of COldean is like that all the time. Park Road, Rushlake Road, there is never anywhere to pass. The only difference the football makes, is maybe, just maybe the fans are blocking the roadfs, before the residents get a chance to!

If we're going to get heavy about parking in Coldean then lets start booking the residents that park on pavements and grass verges.
Exactly this. But I doubt if many Coldean residents with cars who live in area and roads around the pub ,are the ones complaining, as they know a lot of them take libertites with the parking down there, and the last thing they want is to draw attention to it.

If anyone at all IS making a fuss, I bet its some old fart with nothing to do, and who doesn't even own a car!

I was thinking of buying one of these and parking(mooring) it in falmer pond. I bet there's no rule against that.

Because at the time it was a dirty word.

"It isn't a dirty word, Blackadder. CREVICE is a dirty word. LEAK, is a positively disgusting word"

Is it worth catching the No.49 from Portslade
Yep. Every 10 minutes (but make sure it's a 49 to East Moulsecoomb, not a 49A to Lower Bevendean). Stay on until the Bolney Road stop - just a bit more than 10 minutes walk away from the stadium. Journey time is 50 minutes from Portslade Station.

Driving to a park and ride stop and then getting on a bus to then be driven to the ground is less environmentally friendly then driving to Coldean and walking to the ground.

Park and ride adds time to peoples journey and there is plenty of parking in East Brighton.

it is time for the stubborn and ill thought out views of petty local provincial politicians to be properly put to the sword. Brighton is a tourist town. It should be therefore making peoples life easy, not difficult to get to the football.

Simple really when you apply logic instead of misconceived half baked truth's that seem to have become perceived wisdom in the republic of Brighton.

Westminster council have backed down on threat of judicial review, I hope Brighton Council also now start to come to their senses without the need of that.

Surely they'd just give permits to people who live there and give parking tickets to people who park there without a permit, like in central Brighton?

Of course they could, but the point was that Coldean/Moulsecoomb wouldn't be turned into a controlled parking zones with permits, it would be a temporary one. I don't see how this can achieved without either permits or barriers and two pages later no-one has offered any suggestion as to how this will be managed.

No permits, no charges, no hidden taxes, we have already paid for the roads. Westminster Council found this out. Brighton is a tourist town, so make it easy not diffiicult to get to football.

Park & ride? Simply illogical as it is more environmentally unfriendly to DRIVE to a park and ride stop. Then be DRIVEN to the ground, instead of drive to Coldean and then walk to the ground.

We come up from Plymouth every home game, saturdays and Tuesday evening, sometimes we don't get into Brighton till 15-20 mins to kick off, how the hell are we going to get a p&r or train to the ground in time for kick off. Moulescombe & Coldean parking iss a godsend for people like uss. We don't all live in or around brighton.

Exactly, and away fans (many of whom stay as tourists for the weekend). Also P&R means you would drive to Brighton then be driven again to the ground. Not only an utter pointless waste of time but also more driving than if you just parked at Coldean .

What about:-

(1) identifying the particular bits of particular streets where parking by football supporters is causing a genuine problem;

(2) offering residents of those streets the option of a one-hour parking limit applying on matchdays only (from an hour before kick-off until an hour after the final whistle) - except for permit holders;

(3) issuing a permit to all residents who want one - free of charge to them, but paid for by the football club;

(4) have the football club fund the enforcement costs (the legal costs of introducing the scheme, the signs, and the costs of employing parking wardens with powers to issue parking tickets to drivers of cars parked without a permit displayed)?

Such a scheme would, of course, only apply in those areas where there is a genuine problem and where residents wanted restrictions introduced. If Gwylan is right and there isn't the wish to have such a scheme, it wouldn't happen.

What about people with clip boards being given a p45, thereby reducing public spending and instead simply let people get on with their lives and park at Coldean when they turn up to a football?

Yes, that could work. I think there would be a concern that it would be the first step to full parking permits. And there would also be worries from the several Coldean residents who do park illegally that their freedom to do so would be infringed.

And the council would have to manage the fallout from the Brighton residents who have to pay over a £100 for parking permits and wonder how residents of East Brighton get theirs for nothing. Explanations that the club will be paying for them would, I suspect, fall on deaf ears.

A £100 parking permit gives people the option of parking without charge for several hours a day, six days a week, 52 weeks of the year. The scheme I've floated would apply on no more than 30 occasions a year and then only for a few hours.
