....in buying a really talented forward who can score goals but offer him no service.

Seriously though the guy went mad at whoever took the umteempth free kick that went straight to their keeper.

I really feel he is getting severely pissed off at present as I would imagine he was sold a vision of pass and move yet the reality is very different.

I fear he's going to get so f***ed off he'll want out. What I don't understand is that poyet told us all that CMS was to play a pivotal role this year and that the team will be built around him- where's the evidence of this?

The goals will come once more...

I take it you live in Japan and so don't get to watch us week in, week out otherwise you wouldn't be saying that. We will never start scoring goals again without a change of personnel and tactics. There is no indication that Gus has grasped this yet but I am pretty sure that the vast majority of people who have watched us fail to produce a single chance on goal in many of our recent matches think this to be the case.

Same one but we don't play to CMS strengths .. you only gotta look at that Posh team ...scurrying like ants through MF .. what chance Harley/Nav's even Sparrow... he doesn't even suit the wide players imo ... I don't know what the future holds for him Gus looks unlikely to change much

I'd go with this. P'boro played gung ho football last season and CMS was in his element. When we drew 4-4 up there in Jan (I think), he was borderline unplayable. The trouble is, Poyet has spent £3.25m on a player who doesn't fit into his system. That's pretty poor management. Personally I'd love CMS as I think he'd score for fun playing for us.

very true and over the years or reading NSC I haven't given up much of (any) opinion on the way we play, but this year I've managed to see 8 (I think) full games and the highlights of all. Not amazing I know but compared to only 2 years ago, very lucky. Most in touch with the team I have felt in years.

Anyway, I'm commenting on this idea that CMS might be feeling had. There's too much baseless conjecture from fans, 'ooh CMS looked a bit glum the other day. That's just my opinion. Also, your post I quoted states that 'There is no indication that Gus has grasped this yet...' That's just too black and white (careful, Talksport might be listening) and in my humble opinion I think Gus probably knows his onions a bit better than the likes of us.

We just desperately need Vicente and Buckley playing regularly and it would be a whole different situation with CMS.Navaro,Sparrow,Dicker and probably Harley are NOT good enough and never will be at this level.

Perhaps but I can easily compare to when I was younger and highly ambitious in my career and I got to a point where I was presented with 2 opportunities and in the end I took the wrong one ... boy was I pissed off. CMS is 27 .. at or near his peak and on the fringes of national team ... it's difficult to think he'd be anything but pissed off .. and yes Gus did say he'd build around him

As for Gus knowing better .. I hope so but we all see exactly the same results and no matter how good he is 0 points is 0 points. We've all got eyes and we all see the same performances ... Gus hasn't any advantage there ... we all also assume he see's what's going wrong and takes measures to correct those things. I'm afraid I've not seen that, we do the same old thing and hope for inferior opposition.

The worrying thing is that we don't even look like CREATING a chance letting alone him scoring!!!!!!

I quite agree. CMS looked a different player for Scotland against Spain (the world champions!!) than he does for us. I'm not saying he doesn't want to play for us it's clear we're not playing to his strengths. It got Pooh Poohed on here but even the Peterborough journo commented that CMS looked half the player he did last season for them when we played them earlier in the season.

When you spend that much money on the player you have to adapt suit his playing needs. Personally I think the problem is we are playing far too deep. Sure we keep the ball well and our build up is patient but teams in this division press you higher up the field and defend allot better than in the 3rd division.

I watched the DVD the club have just sent out yesterday and our movement going forward in that second half of the season was immense at time! Even Bridcutt wasn't scared of going past the half way line. Almost every goal we scored came from the wide players, I think Gus needs to reinstall into the players that we need to get the ball wide and get at the full backs. Are we really a missing Murray, Bennett and Woods that much? Granted we've been unlucky with injuries but that is football and it shows we have a real lack of strength in depth.

Time to give LuaLua another go??

we'll get there, our creative players will get fit, we'll get more and more used to this level, CMS will start scoring again

Bizarre thread - Strikers tend to hand in transfer requests when they have bigger clubs sniffing around. Generally this happens when they are on fire. I really don't think there is a big transfer market based on sympathy. CMS like every other player in the team needs to take a look at himself and work out what he needs to do to lead the team back to winning ways.

Last time he played in the Championship for Peterborough, their fabled midfield supplied him with 11 goals and the team was relegated. Five so far sounds like a pro-rata improvement.

Well if you believe Gus we have no money left to spend, and have the 16/17th sized budget in the league :lolol:

Why the lol?

If our budget was reassessed to 16th then I'd say the boardroom would act on that or lower the seasons expectations. From what I gather TB doesn't lower expectations very often so it's arguably more likely he'll free up some more funds to make us more competitive.

This is a very fair point.

It sounds glib, but we really have been utterly decimated this season with the constant injuries to the creative players Gus has brought in. They would have made such a massive difference to the last 10 games.

Trouble is it was well pointed out that both Buckley and Vicente were sick notes by supporters of his previous clubs. No arguing with the fact we have been decimated by injuries, but the warnings were there

On Saturday it seemed as though CMS was taking over the Barnes role of playing as a wide player who was meant to support the striker. Completely and utterly pointless

Why isn't Barnes being played UPFRONT alongside him? First 6 or 7 games this worked perfectly, almost all our goals came from them linking up or one of them winning a penalty due to their link play. He needs someone within 15 yards of him.

If CMS had a decent midfield playmaker like Elliot Bennet behind him, he would be scoring by the preverbial JCB bucket load !
We need a striker of as Gus said premiership quality, same with midfield and a keeper.
We have had a lot of injuries to be fair so lets see what Saturday brings with a fully fit squad.

By the way anyone know how El-Abd got on last night in Res game ??

Hoskins - Vicente - Buckley

All brought in to upgrade options behind CMS
2nd poacher type striker to drift left ala Barnes last season is exactly what Hoskins was for Brizzle
2 more specialised players to play the 2 roles Bennett did last year, neither as all round as him but Vicente should have been better through middle and Buckley wider version of him for the winger role in our lop-sided mid formation.

None of the 3 have played enough to settle and build up a front 4 connection. Especially important in the fluid system we play.

CMS (arguably Murray's replacement) and reason we didn't want to resign him on starter money is only one to have played in our whole front/forward scheme! If we'd wanted to play a target man alongside him would have paid our own one starter money but clearly were happy to retain him 'as an option off the bench and pay him thus' or let him go instead of be held to ransom. Maybe the lesson is you have to pay 14-16 players starter money as not in L1 any more. Otherwise it's just dreadful luck that 3/4 of our front line have been out. Noone might have been the back-up for all 3 positions or plan have been Buckley to move to either of other 2 roles and slot a wide player in should any single player be out, but we can't actually do that if all 3 go missing! Lua-Lua while immense is clearly an out and out winger or nothing not a slot him in anywhere and get 90% player like Bennett or Steven Gerrard / Milner even Downing so still in same boat even having both of them as options.
