Looked amazing from the West.Nah we were holding our poppy cards
On the Ball City (Norwich) and Goodnight Irene (Bristol Rovers) are both older songs. This has got me thinking now. Is SBTS the oldest club anthem?
Written in 1907, is there any club anthems , still regularly sung, that pre-date it?
Now’s not the time for clapping, now put your hands away…it would be great when the crowd sing Sussex by the Sea they didn’t clap! You don’t hear other clubs anthems spoilt by clapping.
Just a thought

…..take the words off the big screen….Now’s not the time for clapping, now put your hands away…
I agree it is a bit cheap having the words on the screen but it turns out that the majority of fans now know the words which I guess is a good thing, every cloud etc but I do agree with you.Now now we can’t have everything at once I’m just happy they’ve taken the tin pot words off the screen, it was embarrassing !!
Possibly - although the antecedents for Goodnight Irene are a bit vague https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goodnight,_IreneOn the Ball City (Norwich) and Goodnight Irene (Bristol Rovers) are both older songs.
Allez Allez works a lot better when you've won something along the way to boast about in the lyrics. On another tack about songs and the like……have we a “ song” for the. Ole ole oleeeeeeeeey, ole ole oleeeeeeeeee. Song that so many teams have words for?
just heard the arse singing a version and then the chelski doing the same…of course and Liverpool.
now we are “ big boys” I think we should have our own version.

Newcastle’s Blaydon Races was written in 1862, not sure when it became regularly sung at games but by the early 1970s at least. This has got me thinking now. Is SBTS the oldest club anthem?

The Sheffield United one to the tune of Annie’s Song as well. Even if the words are quite funnyI don't even like Mull of Kintyre as a song, but somehow it really works at Forest. It always sounds good.

Fair point. I guess I’m thinking of anthem in the sense of songs associated with specific clubs (and maybe their region too) rather than what they come out toNewcastle come out to Local Hero.
