Brighton & Hove Albion are investigating the possibility of putting on a dedicated train service for fans travelling to the Premier League match against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday 19th January, kick-off 3pm.

The service will depart from Hove at approximately 7am and stop only at Haywards Heath, before arriving at Manchester Piccadilly approximately two and a half hours before kick-off. The return train will arrive at Hove at roughly 11pm. Supporters are advised that alcohol will not be permitted on the train, in accordance with legislation.

The price is yet to be confirmed, but would be in the region of £80-£100, and is dependent on enough fan interest being generated in the service.

Pricing is insane.

Advance tickets can be bought for £46 one way (Hove to Manchester). Regular return tickets are £110.

You can do Euston to Manchester for £50 return if you buy them now, though you still have to spend £15-£25 getting to London.

So £80 without the palaver is attractive. Without the booze really isn't.

Well if you've ever been on a proper away day you would know that some trains run a dry service and you'll have your beer taken off you by the OB before boarding ,Just a heads up on the subject

Stewards on the train, the same as 2004, when we went to Cardiff. Funnily enough, the train was awash with booze on the way back, and stewards nowhere to be seen.

You were never allowed alcohol on the old Seagull Specials. Mind you the tickets were cheap.

For some not having the hassle of having to cross London would be attractive. For most, the loss of alcohol would outweigh that benefit.
