End of term report with the Champions League Final unlikely to move things around for us.

Ranked 15th in Europe
It's staggering to think that if there were a Super League of the best 18 teams in Europe, we'd be in it

If you'd have predicted that on 14 February 1998, people would be looking around for a couple of doctors to certify you

This assumes a Super League would be a meritocracy, which makes no commercial sense. Currently 8 out of 18 places based purely on rank, would be English sides, with Brighton and Brentford pushing out Spurs and Chelsea. It is hard to argue that this high level or representation is not directly attributable to the current TV model.

No representation for France (PSG), Netherlands (Ajax), Scotland (either Glasgow sides), Poland (Legia Warsaw), Rome etc, etc

Current Europa League qualifiers BHAFC and Rennes represent cities, which are very small by comparison. Brentford's tidy modern stadium, maybe does not represent the best showcase for a London franchise.

I was quite specific in my wording.

Now you've done it. Palace will hire Alf Ramsey as manager and that is us done for. Although I am guessing with his footballing nous, Boehly is already trying to find his number.
You won't go fooling Toddy like that - even he knows that Alf Ramsay has retired from football management now.

No, he'll be hot for signing some young, upcoming talent with fresh ideas and a can-do mindset - maybe that handsome Lasso guy from the Sky documentaries....?

Ranked 14th in Europe and 6 in England. Next two games are against our favourite and second favourite opponents. Our record against Wolves is phenomenal and West Ham won't exactly be overjoyed at the prospect of facing us again either.

What could possibly go wrong? Hold that thought!

Growing up, my total ambition was to see us in the Div 2 ladder on my wall

Time for some Europa League ELO analysis http://clubelo.com/UEL

The three highest rank teams in the competition are English.
Ajax at 39 and Marseille at 52 provide some stiff competition, coming in at similar rankings to Fulham and Burnley.

Aek Athens are not ranked, but you can see from their ratings above there are plenty of more lowly ranked teams in the draw. A further note of caution based on their European record.

Strong against English clubs and weak against Dutch and French clubs! We will not wish to see this play out if things get tight.

They've beaten English clubs 3 times out of 12 matches...

...QPR once and Derby County twice, all in the 1976/77 season!

Every other match was a loss.

OK another way of looking at this is that they sit between Coventry and Sunderland in the rankings. Last season we failed to beat a lowly Charlton Athletic side.

All teams still in the competition bar Backa Topola rank higher than Sheffield Wednesday and they are MASSIVE.

The three highest ranked teams CURRENTLY in the Europa League, yes - until all the third-placed teams from the Champions League groups drop in.
