All the news on the Spurs managers job seem strangely public. What happened to going about your business quietly.

This is getting silly now. Spurs can't seem to attract any of their favoured candidates. And when they do start talking to Gattuso the backlash from their fans makes them think again.

A snippet from David Ornstein's article in The Athletic:

What happened on Thursday?
Conversations took place between Tottenham and the 43-year-old former AC Milan and Napoli manager — as they have done with numerous contenders — however Gattuso will not be getting the job.

There was a huge backlash from Spurs fans after reports that Gattuso was the leading candidate.

Historic comments allegedly made by the ex-Italy midfielder about the role of women in football, same-sex marriage and racism were repeatedly shared by Tottenham supporters on social media, accompanied by the hashtag #NoToGattuso, which was trending in the United Kingdom last night.

Tottenham’s new managing director Fabio Paratici had been speaking to Fonseca over the past week about the vacant position. He had considered hiring Gattuso as Pirlo’s successor at Juventus earlier this summer.

Gattuso, who parted ways with Napoli last month, walked away from Fiorentina before he had even officially started in the job.

Who next I wonder? Maybe ask Ryan Mason to take over again?

A pitch for Potter?

Oh yes great idea, let's hire the manager of a club who just managed to avoid relegation last season.

If you thought their fans were angry about a possible Gattuso appointment, then you should see the backlash if they move for Potter, a manager who has acheived very little yet in football. In the future who knows?

Their fans weren't angry about Gattuso's footballing credentials but his alleged racism.
Shouldn't be a problem with the more enlightened Potter.
It'll be funny when he turns them down too.
Spurs are staggering around like a drunk, jilted teenager, trying it on with everyone at a party and getting knocked back repeatedly.

Angry is angry, the reason is irrelevant! No club will want to alienate it's fanbase too much. Plus, Spurs will want to appoint a winner, someone with a track record of winning trophies.

Is anyone bored enough to help me compile a list of the managers who have had a spin round the WHL revolving door.

Gattouso.
Fonseca.
Fella from Napoli.

... ruling out Gennaro Gattuso which is interesting since they seemed to have a look at him.

If they had a chance to sign him I think they would have as going for Gattuso indicates some kind of desperation.

Similarities to our efforts to sign a quality young striker then.

I did mention this in the other thread, but I do wonder if Potter was informally approached by a rep for Spurs/Everton and got a firm “no”.

Because I do find it curious how, especially for Everton, all the Potter rumours were building up and building up and suddenly.. nothing. It stopped cold.

All these conspiracy theories on here! No, l feel sure that neither club came anywhere near Potter, they both have much bigger fish to fry, Tottenham particularly.

Like Fonseca who led Roma to their worst league position in 12 years and Gattuso who got sacked once again...

Like Rafa Benitez?

Maybe.

We’re not going to find out either way. But I do note it as curious that all the Potter rumours suddenly went silent. Especially from Everton which even their local journos were talking up. I suspect some form of sounding out took place and they got a firm ‘no’.

Guess we’ll have to wait for the Graham Potter autobiography one day.

Yes, it's starting to sound like a Trumpist explanation for the January 6 attack on the US Capitol building.

I really find it interesting how many fans of other, bigger, clubs would be delighted if they appointed GP as their head coach.

Yet there are still many Albion fans who don’t see that and remain non plussed about him and even scoff at the idea of him joining these clubs.

Unless I'm mistaken I don't think any employed managers have been linked to Everton and in particular Tottingham.

I feel that's rather telling not only about where Spurs are at now, but also goes someway to explain why they can't land anyone.
