Clarence Clemons, The Big Man has died.

Ever since my first Springsteen gig at the Brighton Centre in 1981 I have tried to see him every time he is in the UK and the Big Man was such a great part of the performance. He made me take up the sax (which I hardly ever practice to be honest) but he gave me a love of the instrument. He will be sadly missed.

That was my first Springsteen gig too, I was right at the front aged about 17 - and hooked as a fan for life!

After that I saw him and the band on other tours in France, Germany and London, I soon got my OH into following Brooooce and the E Street Band as well.

RIP Clarence, you are a legend.

Also saw him in 1981 (at Hammersmith Odeon I think). That was "The River" tour? Saw him at Wembley in 1985-which was the best concert I ever saw. Saw him at Wembley Arena and Nottingham since then.

Got every Springsteen album. Cliche to say he was big part of the soundtrack to my life-but he was.

I was there too. I believe Dire Straits were at Wembley Arena that night, traffic chaos afterwards! Also remember a traffic cop with a Bruce/Knopfler-style headband around his helmet!

My first Springsteen gig, too - the original date was cancelled because Bruce was suffering from "exhaustion" - not surprising, with the energy the whole band burned on stage every night.

A few of us found the restaurant where the band went after the gig, and I got all their autographs except for the Big Man. A big, big loss.

Pleased lots of you enjoyed the Brighton gig. I too was at Wembley, most recently at the Emirates. Great times, the Brighton one was best by far.

Blimey, aint heard that for years, with Jackson Browne, and Darryl Hannah in the video I think, and I believe that was C's son on the drums.
I bought the album just after the BITUSAtour, Clarence Clemons and the Red Bank Rockers

Always thought the drummer was Narada Michael Walden?

Anyway, Clarence Clemons is a great loss for the music world.

Very sad, saw Springsteen and the E street band at Bramell Lane in 1988, still the best concert I have been to. The big man was a unique talent that will be massively missed! Just hope the E Street carry on as a tribute to him! RIP, sleep well.

Saw that myself 'Tunnel of Love' tour ? I simply can't see how they can carry on he was an iconic figure within the band,and would it be fair to anyone who replaced him ?
