Clarence Clemons, The Big Man has died.

The expression "The whole is greater than the sum of the parts" is (now sadly was) very true of the E-Street Band who I had the good fortune to see in 2002 at Earls Court. Bruce is a brilliant songwriter and performer but the band take him to another level and Clarence was very big part of it in every sense. He had a huge presence and the cheer he got when he first appeared on stage that evening was almost as great as for the Boss himself, and every sax solo (which like most E-Street soloing was brief and to the point) was cheered.

No disrepect to the late Danny Federici but his loss causes a big, big hole in the band which can never be filled. I know that Springsteen is a bit like Marmite to some people who can't see beyond "Born in the USA" and don't listen to the lyrics!

I am absolutely stunned.
I've seen Bruce performing with Clarence over 25 times, the other shows when Bruce was acoustic, solo or without the E St Band, although brilliant, there always seemed to be a void where Clarence should have been.
When Danny died 3 years ago, it was never the same, and now C has joined him.
Impossible for anyone else to take his place, I guess that will be the end of the E Street Band.

Rest in peace Clarence, the greatest saxophonist ever.
Sleep Tight Big Man and thanks.

Sad news. I saw him live as part of The E Street band a few times. A huge presence, a huge character and an excellent saxophonist. RIP.

Sad indeed. Saw Springsteen and the E-Street band quite a few times and the Big Man was a legend. He sure could play the saxaphone. I used to love Jungleland and IMHO that was the big man at his best, RIP big man.

Ever since my first Springsteen gig at the Brighton Centre in 1981 I have tried to see him every time he is in the UK and the Big Man was such a great part of the performance. He made me take up the sax (which I hardly ever practice to be honest) but he gave me a love of the instrument. He will be sadly missed.

Blimey was that back in 81. I was there to, that solo in Jungleland will stay with me for ever. RIP
