A tiny percentage of women having a ****ed up enough body image to have labiaplasty doesn't constitute a consensus.

I don't think we need to be medically qualified to see that there is no comparison between the two, do we? There are definitely medical reasons for one, the other just seems to me to be another way that men in certain cultures assert their dominance over women.

I don't think you understand what female circumcision, or female genital mutiliation is. FGM is horrific and can cause massive problems with sex, childbirth and even cause death.

I was in hospital recovering from a turps op, and in the bed next to me was a young chap who had a circumcision just before his wedding, (on the wishes of his new bride). He told me he was on his honeymoon whilst in hospital due to the surgeon taking a slice of his helmet, and then stuck it back on without telling him then sent him home. The chap only found out when his dick was hurting and he went back to the hospital in agony on his actual wedding day, and on further inspection by the nurses he said he had a infected wound which needed to be drained off and scrapped out. Needless to say whilst he was telling me his troubles his wife visited him and boy was she a looker, after she had gone he said "that was agony I started to get a lazy lob on". He was only in for a few days then he went home, on leaving he said to me " On one hand I can't wait to see my wife and have a cuddle and on the other hand I know its going to be very painful".
Everybody in the ward including me were pulling all sorts of faces,cringing and holding our private parts in sympathy all through his story.

Where do you stand, out of interest, on parents who get their (very small) children's ears pierced?

Personal opinion, of course, but I can't stand the sight of pierced ears on babies & toddlers. It can't be the safest thing either, but I always wonder how they justify to themselves the act of using what's effectively a staple gun to drive a stud though the earlobe of a one year old.

Same as circumcision for me. The child's body is modified without their consent or medical necessity. I agree with you.

Most of you grow up to accept your body, modified by others as it is, without any serious psychological effect. But that does not make it right to do that to another person without their consent.

Sadly a mate of mine had a massive set to with his parents when he was older and realised he had been cut without any medical reasons.

He told them it was his body and nobody had the right to mutilate any part of it, only he could give that consent. (I must say being whole, that I agreed with him).

He was an only child and did not speak to his mum and dad for two years.

His problem was that he was convinced men who had their foreskins had more enjoyable sex. Of course, only mature men who were cut as adults can answer that question.

I get the impression that the majority consensus is don't interfere with anyone else BUT, for those that have been cut and have no problem all is well. One day we may see the first law suit against the perpetrator, probably in the US first.
