This guy’s agent has been linking us with his player all summer. He scored 6 goals in the Jupiler league last season for Anderlecht, we signed the player who scored 25.

He is not good enough for Fiorentina at 24, god knows why his agent is linking him with a top 6 EPL side?

This is correct including cup games. Averaged less than 30 minutes a game in Serie A. Young, wouldn't be expensive, would probably be happy with a rotation striker spot. Very us.

I'm fairly optimistic about this guy's potential.
Yes his goal stats are underwhelming, but lately we have been the kings of finding value in the market and a closer look at his stats may explain why we're interested.

This comparison with the best of the best shows that he can compete in one fundamental area, shots on target percentage (SoT%). If we create the chances, he is well capable of hitting the target.



Last season Neal Maupay's SoT% was 23.7%.

The guy looks quick and mobile and is likely to stretch defences. This is a key attribute of Welbeck as well.
Potter seems to like this as it creates 'pockets of space for others'. There's stuff on YouTube about how he liked to use this type of striker in Sweden.
So it's not just this guy's scoring record we'll be looking at.
A loan seems a sensible move if he's had a bad injury.

Having watching Deniz last night, the one thing he isn't is 'mobile'.

Last season Neal Maupay's SoT% was 23.7%.

He certainly appears to have a great all round game in the style of Welbeck:

His career goal ratio of 1 per 323 minutes played (in a lot of poor leagues along with 5,244 minutes in Serie A) is pretty alarming. But then, in Welbeck’s career he has 1 goal per 271 minutes but those stats are pretty much all from the EPL and other top level competitions and his England strike rate was 1 per 145 minutes played which is extremely good.

In summary, if he comes, we ain’t getting a prolific goalscorer by any means but he could probably do the job Danny Welbeck has done this season so far (no goals but great play otherwise).

But it’s clear Potter wants a Welbeck back up so it does make sense. Maybe the thinking is someone who’d be happy to be back up to Welbs for a season or two while we wait for some of our investments in youth to develop.
