Chris Hughton says club will not panic in transfer window

I truly believe that we are in the market to really strengthen the team in Jan and make that push to guarantee automatic or play off place. I know first hand that we are in the market for players, left back, left sided centre back, central midfielder, winger (already got) and a striker. The agent in question is obviously just one of many looking for us but he is confident that we will add to the squad as TB is ambitious and willing to pay wages that equate to the top end of championship wages. Fingers crossed it's all true!

What I mean is, why do we spend (in my opinion) UNBELIEVABLE sums of money on every part of the club other than the main part that actually makes you money, ultimately?

Did we really need to spend £120m on the new stadium? Don't get me wrong, I am not for a second moaning about Bloom. I'm just slightly baffled by what seems to me as a very unbalanced way of looking at our spending. Fair enough if we don't want to go all out for the Prem, but in that case why spend such huge amounts of money on a stadium and training academy that appear designed with a Prem team in mind etc?

The traditional position can easily be different from the current position, there is no conflict in that.

I remember under Gus second season that we needed a striker and thought he got his target in Jan for it to fall though, and then ending up missing 2nd place by 3 points and we all know how that season ended.

In the summer we strengthened as best we could as a potential mid table club. Now we are in a very different position and whilst Bloom doesnt like doing business in this window im sure his comments came from a realisation that we had/have a superb chance of achieving that dream promotion. The 8 teams above us in the spending league all did so with the aid of parachute payments within the 5 year time frame.

What none of us know is whether the Chairman's plan is for PL football. Having invested so heavily in the Amex and the training ground there may not be enough in his pot to spend on the quality in depth that we clearly need if we want to go up.

As previously stated, Hemed isn't going to get you 20+ goals a season and we already know the gulf between the Championship and League One. CMS, despite his endeavours, could never come close to his record in League One, and Baldock is just another who can't cut the goalscoring mustard at the higher level.

Maybe the 26K+ crowds will continue if we spend our future in the Championship but I have a fear that we will have a lot who drift away if we don't go up, particularly if we can't even play attractive football....and score some goals.
