A little unfair, if I might say so.

No one is talking about 'having both'.

The traditional position can easily be different from the current position, there is no conflict in that.

So, que sera sera... let's not doubt Tony just yet. 17 days.

So long as you're not hanging out for one of the South Americans. They are not happening.

I hope the club doesn't leave it until the last week otherwise all the decent players will have already been snapped up elsewhere.

The 8 teams above us in the spending league all did so with the aid of parachute payments within the 5 year time frame.

So get on up there and grab some of those there parachute payments dummies. Who knows, you may even find yerself 2nd in the Premier league like Leicester, or top ten like Watford or (sake!) Palace. Time to stop pissing about in the Championship shirley when there's NOTHING clubs doing OK with the big boys.

Not necessarily. Most of the activity takes place in the last week.

What a lot of people on this thread seems to be overlooking is that our actual approach is likely to be different to what we are saying. Should CH be saying ' we are pretty desperate for another striker to achieve a play off place at worse and you know what, we'll pay over the odds to get one'.

I expect our position is that we will spend big if an opportunity comes along that represents good value. The SAs would be in this bracket as they are young and the sell on monies that we would recuperate would be high, probably leading to a longer term profit.

I expect we have a list of potential striker targets but there are obstacles in our way which may clear in the next couple of weeks. What we mustn't do is panic and bring someone in for the sake of it.

Anyone of great value will take some working on. Just think of how long it took to get Leo in.

Let's remember our Owner is a poker player.

Quite. At the Albion Roar live Paul Hayward made the point that Leicester don't have anything that we don't. In fact, in terms of attendance and facilities we dwarf Watford and Palace. However any of those three sides would currently take us to bits on the pitch.

I agree with your second point, but small clubs such as Palace get 90% of their income from TV rights, and so attendances and facilities are a non-issue in terms of being able to recruit players, as their main focus is wages, which are determined to a large extent by the division in which the team plays.

Sorry, I know. The point was more they are making a real mark on the Prem having gone up with smaller crowds and ostensibly less income (Watford and Palace) while Leicester are just a very similar club.

Agreed, Palace were helped by a club gifting them a 30 goal a season striker on a Bosman to help them to promotion. (Opens old wound, gets salt shaker)

The comment was about 'not having it both ways'.

This is clearly not the case.

Believe what you want about the South Americans. We shall see.

Palace were also gifted 8 penalty's from Zaha constantly falling over himself...

Not prepared to panic just yet, we now possess one of the best wingers in the championship in knockaert and if Wilson can find his form, plus the sick list gradually returning we should be ok for at least 4 or 5th minimum.

That means 'No more signings' doesn't it?

Exactly this , why not just say as it is , we are not signing anyone and never were !!! Instead of letting the cash paying fans wait about biting their nails
clinging on to every hope that we may just sign a big signing.

You all realise, I'm sure, there is a world of difference between "not panicking" and "not even trying to do anything"?

Club won't panic, but some of the fans sure are!

I am confident we will pull in a striker.

Can one be cynical and say gossip was afoot that we were interested in south american talent, just before they advertised the half season ticket bonanza....

Nah that's bollox

It's not just about the strikers!
It's a simple fact that to be a successful team in this or any other league, you have to have at least one 20 goal-a-season striker. We haven't had one of those since Murray left. I can't see us picking up a decent striker in this window, unless we gamble on a foreign import like Ulloa. He was a gamble at the time, which paid off, and a player like him would be perfect for this side, but it is a gamble.
We do have a decent set of strikers in the squad, but the problem is not just their lack of confidence, is the lack of supply. Everyone was saying how great Wilson is when he came here, and he is class, but he's feeding off scraps. Zamora is still a brilliant player and can still make things happen, but even he is struggling. Hemed was looking good at the start of the season. Scoring 5 or 6, and looked like a great buy, but he has lost his confidence now. We know Baldock just can't seem score no matter what he does, even though he puts his heart and soul into every game. I feel they are all capable of scoring 20-a-season if they just get the right supply, and that's where the problem lies.
We have been plagued with bad luck and injuries, which is the reason why we haven't been able to win. We have had no-one to put the ball in those dangerous areas, where we can score. Since we lost KZ and Bong on the left we haven't looked the same side. Then losing Rosenior and March too, just killed off our attacking threat.
I love Calderon, but having him cover left back has weakened our defence. The injuries to Greer and Hunemeier have unsettled the central defenders too, and people are making mistakes.
We now have some cover at left back, and we now have KZ back and Knockaert, who will hopefully start to bring our forwards back into the game and take the pressure off our defence. With Rosenior and Bong hopefully back to fitness soon, our squad will start to look like tittle hopefuls again.
So do we really need to buy anyone? If we make the play-offs it will be a success on last year, and we have a squad we can build on in the summer, regardless of wether we go up or not.
