Nice piece.

But one thing worries me ... half-way down, the picture "Chris Hughton talking to the press" ... there's a bald guy in the front row...

Can't believe they've ymised that caption everyone knows it should be 'The gaffer at the presser' ?

A decent man and a really class act.

To think some wallies on here actually wanted him out after the fag-end of that miserable 2014/15 season.

*sheepishly raises hand.*

I wasn't quite in the 'get him out' boat but I had serious doubts. They didn't last long the following season.

In our defense, miserable doesn't even begin to do justice to the dross we were served up at the end of that season. We'd also just seen the club give the previous manager just that little bit too much time. I'm angry with myself now because if anything, I tend to be right on the other end of the 'giving someone a chance' scale.

And therein lies the problem with some football fans expectations.

When CH took over he had to try and keep clean sheets to pick up enough points to stay up because the strikers ''couldn't kick doors at Halloween''. This so called ''new manager bounce'' only applies if the new manager takes over a squad of players who are underperforming. Chris took over a squad which was not underperforming. They were at their best but the squad assembled by the previous Manager just wasn't good enough. That was just bad recruitment.

In one ''active'' transfer window he went straight to the top of the league at the start of the next season. He always says it takes at least 4 transfer windows to put a capable squad together and that seems to have been fairly accurate looking at where we are at the moment.

Tonight is a really interesting match for me. Part of me thinks we are better than Sheff Wed and should go out and take the game to them. The other part of me sees Sheff Wed as the main challengers to an automatic Promotion place so would I just try and keep them at bay by ensuring we don't lose and let them gain any ground on us - So glad it's not my call to make but look forward to a real tactical battle tonight.

Last time it was us that had to come out and take them on in the play offs. This time it is them that has to do it if they want to chase an automatic promotion place. How they set up to play tonight will determine whether they are chasing play offs or chasing automatic promotion.

Fair play to you for fessing up chap.

Yes the football was dire, and after pulling away from the relegation places, we also seemed to regress to an extent under CH and sort of stumbled over the line. Comfortably clear enough of danger, but yes it was really grim stuff. Then we had the Narch fans in our ears telling us how dull and defensive CH was and how they were glad when he left, so its not that surprising that SOME fans were calling for someone else to be brought in, given how we finished that season.

He still ticked a lot of boxes for me though, the main one being he knows this league and knows how to get out of it, so I always felt he deserved a chance to make his own mark on the squad. And I was pleasantly surprised when he kicked off 2015/16 playing 4-4-2. and stuck with it. The rest, as they say, is history. Fact is, we've got one of the best managers in the business, he's surpassed all expectations and is doing a truly miraculous job.

I just hope that if (IF) we reach the PL, but then find ourselves at the arse-end of it battling to stay up (which is entirely feasible), the fans who have become accustomed to winning week-in, week-out don't then turn on CH. I honestly don't think anyone could do a better job than that fella.

I really do think that when we get to PL, and because it's taken a bloody long time to get there, I think that an enormous effort will be made to stay up

Which is funny because my expectation was that he'd come in and keep us up and nothing else really mattered. Which was achieved. So I sort of knew I was being a bit silly.

But the football was sooooo grim. My bad, water under the bridge now.

I'd have felt so much better about the second half of 'that' season had the Albion picked up more than 1 point from the games v Millwall, Blackpool & Wigan.

As it was the team were no better than under Sami, playing the same failed formation and ultimately fortunate there were 3 teams worse.

I had no idea that just 2 years later I'd have the biggest man crush ever on CH.
The guy just oozes class, and I hope he's here for ever and ever!
