Just had a post drinks evening out with two colleagues from work in Poets Cornet in Hove. I get that pubs need to cater for all needs and I have no issue with children in pubs normally , but when did Halloween become an excuse for a night out for groups of 10/12 people with 4/5 year olds in pubs shouting the place down until 9pm?

By coincidence, my father in law who lives near Aldrington Station told me this week that they ditched their nearest pub in Poet’s Corner.

The Ancient Mariner? Guessing he said that one.

Reason is parents with young kids now dominate it, from 3pm every weekday.

It would be unfair to name the pub. But yes. I used to live in Poets Corner until 2002 so thought it would be nice to frequent old haunts. I don’t have an issue generally and I know I sound like an old fart, but it was literally being treated as a crèche.

Stopped going in the Stoneham for that exact reason.

Completely agree OP, although it’s not just Halloween.

Anytime there’s kids after 6pm its just tedious. Pub is a place to unwind with adults, not for screeching voices and having to dodge running children whilst carrying drinks.

I don’t really go to pubs that much since I stopped drinking but if I was having a quiet (soft) drink and chat in a pub in the evening I wouldn’t want kids dominating the place, especially when many seem to scream very loudly every 2 minutes.

Obviously if it was a Brewers Fayre type of happy families pub/ cheapo restaurant I would expect to see kids charging about in there, but not a back street pub.

Just go somewhere else. Kids are out with parents in bars and all sorts until crazy hours in the Mediterranean and we love it. On holiday.

But it's pretty healthy.

There are plenty of drinking places you can go to, but you have to choose your weapon.

We would have, but unfortunately we ordered food at 6.00pm only for the kids and their carers turning up at 6.30pM. I am very sympathetic to pubs who have had a SH1t time recently, but we decided at 7.30pm to drink in the outside area …until the parents decided that was a good area to let their children run off their E numbers whilst they drank quietly inside. Until they all left at 9pm.

Is Poets Corner in Hove the one with all the streets named after poets (Shakespeare, Wordsworth, Byron, etc.) near Aldrington Train Station and within walking distance of the beach at Hove and Stoneham Park?

In my experience, kids are like dogs. The owner is almost always the problem.

We used to get dumped outside the pub as kids in the 70’s with a pack of salt & vinegar and a coke.
The days of public bars and Saloon bars.

Recently in a chain pub i use now and then i witnessed just about the most annoying display of selfish bas****ism imaginable . This family of knuckle dragging chavs had pushed several tables together not bothering to leave enough room for staff or other customers to get through . Then with their mini me`s of varying ages each with their own individual talent for noise or destruction came the highlight of their disgusting act . As others around them were trying to eat their meals this happy couple with their latest creation decided that we all just had to witness them change this child`s sh1tty nappy on the table and feel privileged to share the toxic smell that came with it . At this time several members of staff could do no more than just stare in horror , this ****ing pig ignorant bunch of trailer trash inbreds then stayed a further hour despite many overheard comments from other patrons .

So kids in pubs , absolutely NO unless they`re on the ****ing MENU !
