I do not want to have to hear your kids arsing about making me conscious of using the C word when I am perfectly entitled to.

KIDS OUT

That is debatable, whether or not you are entitled to use it, it is basically down to respect and the lack of and also pure ignorance. You wouldn't have used it in any of my pubs, as her that must be obeyed would have barred you immediately.

Horses for courses I think.

Just because we have kids does not mean we should be exiled to the likes of Toby or Harvesters! However, I can fully sympathise with those wishing to swear freely and smoke.

A good compromise would be a return to the public and saloon bar divide!

You wouldn't have lasted long in business in Dublin, barring 100+ customers a day isn't good for business :glare:

Arthur charges around the Duke once or twice a week for an hour, whilst we have a drink...We've not yet had an evil eye from anyone - and I'd be the first to put him back in his pram with his books and his cup if someone did. Roys been great with him and as long as we're gone by 7pm he doesn't mind at all.... Most people in there seem to enjoy Arthurs company and as long as the front door is closed he can't really get into any harm. Its pretty bloody harsh having no family here to help babysit and give us evenings out, so this is a great compromise for us, and I appreciate it greatly! But I know Arthurs pretty well behaved at the moment and if he ever got out of order - I'd be fairly embarrassed and probably leave!

If other people took your lead rather than expect everybody else in the pub to amuse their child there would not be a problem, unfortunately that is not always so.

Neither here nor there
Maybe if we lived in a country that tried to make friends with its kids at an earlier age we wouldn't have the nastiest teenagers in Europe.

Agreed - also most kids around here lack respect, respect taught through discipline!

We take our 7 month old to loads of pubs round our way, were always gone by 6-7pm and dont cause anyone any grief.

Ive never had any problem with kids being in a pub during the day, if it was in the evening I wouldnt appreciate it in pubs that are full of people of the lash, but think there should still be a place for kids to go with their family.

Far from it I ran pubs where people felt safe and happy and to be respected and give respect.

Whatever with you.

Apart from the compulsive swearing, which I find most people in Ireland suffer from for some reason, I have to say the kids are a lot more respectful to adults than their English equivalents.

Good stuff! Glad to hear its happening somewhere... By the One Stop (stupid 24hr quick-e-mart by the station) here in Shoreham-By-Sea I have never seen such dreadful, idiotic, slovenly, drunk, swearing, non property respecting, selfish 10-16year olds during school holidays! It really gets me wound up! and I blame the parents - but I'll stop now before I burst a blood vessel
