children in poverty

The only time I have ever experienced poverty was, surprise, surprise under Thatcher's government. I remember my Mum working night shifts and still having to ask our neighbours for food, all sleeping in one room because the heating was cut off. The Tory's are driving the country this way again. Especially now they are out of the coalition their campaign against the poorest in society can proceed unfettered.
This is from a bloke who has stated he went to private school, you're a fraud who'se talking bollox.

Not that I have to justify myself to you but I went to Public School on a scholarship.

Thank you for your interest.

In a way I wished you had not mentioned this, as it then encourages others to comment on your personal situation, which is hard to do. I think I am right in confirming that you opened your account by blaming the Tories for the predicament of poor families, whatever the definition of poverty is. I can see that your situation was not good, but if you and your wife split up, and she then boozes it all away, thus frittering away your funds, why should the social (i.e. other taxpayers whose wives don't booze it all) give a xxxx as you refer to it. Of course children will always be supported, and rightly so, but this is what I mean when I write about personal responsibility. Great that your second wife has come to the rescue and I am genuinely delighted for you, but your previous situation can be mirrored hundreds of thousands of times in present-day UK, and whilst you may understandably consider that you were poor, it is not a reason why others should feel guilt.

because they supply the books and gave them to HER after the court case, presumably because she is the mother instanly forgetting I had care and control, and it was my personal responsiblity to get them their money, that they gave away to a piss artist who when slouched at the bar totally forgot her children.
had I not gone and fought for their rightful allowance, they would have gone without, I tend to think about those poor sods who have been through the same hoops and fallen at the first one because they don't have the fight and walked away thinking that they are second class citizens because that is what they are told "you are not entitled because we say so".
I am a great believer in direct action and it was not until they thought they would be saddled with my two going into care they started to feel a little uneasy and looked into the files.
the only person who might just feel a twinge of guilt is the tw@t who made a bad decision in the first place. just one point I missed earlier(not to do with the thread) all the time I was out of the house and working paying her maintainance and the mortgage, I gave her, she ommitted to pay anything (7 month back mortgage to pay as well as everything else) thank god for my friends.
have you ever tried to watch TV on a portable and living on scouse for weeks.
they were good days and cemented a relationship with my daughter that has never broken, my son does not speak to anybody in the family now not even his mother.
good lesson for all those going through a divorce .............................children first

1: How can you 'better yourself' when born into a family with no ambition, no education, no books, no employment and no future?
2: National debt is currently 90% of GDP, not 5%.
3: If you believe that borrowing more is inappropriate, which is fair enough, do you therefore support the tax cuts for the very rich in the form of the recent Inheritance Tax changes in the budget.

1. hard but not impossible .... and if you do make it brilliant and you have problem 3

2. Shit is it really....still half of Greece though.(Surely we cannot borrow more)

3. Tricky one for me...I believe the richest in society should shoulder a large share of tax revenue which they do (ignoring tax fiddles/ avoidance which obviously abhore) as to inheritance tax again tricky but I do want to leave my kids something..albeit not the millions some may get.

Fair answers.

In relation to 3, realistically you will probably die when in your 80's, and your kids will be in their 50's, so it it highly unlikely to be to help them to buy their first property, have a family etc.

Under the old rules the first £650,000 was tax free (assuming you are married). That seems reasonably fair to me. George Osborne's decision to raise this to £2 million seems that he is favouring the rich at the expense of those less well off.

IMO if the economy was doing well and there was a budget surplus then it would be a non-issue, but given the extent of government's borrowing then it is inappropriate and ill timed.

Bushy, I can only suggest if I wind you up so much that you don't engage with me. Now, I have already had several warnings about this exact kind of thing and while a binfest can be amusing, with you it's dull and you take it too far. So, a good day to you.

There are very few families without books or education. It's what you do with what's available. Both of my parents live in council houses (divorced when I was 8) so nothing came to me. I did have a grammar school education but left school at 16 with just O levels as there wasn't anything else available unless you were rich (60s)
I was determined that my kids would have the best chances, so read to them whilst they were toddlers, got books out of the library, & encouraged them by going to parent evenings etc. One went to uni and is a chartered tax accountant now, the other left school at 18 and has worked his way up to Station Officer in the Fire Brigade. From a generation with nothing, to middle class in 30 years.

I used to work as a youth worker and saw for myself the attitude of people who said school was a waste of time, because it did nothing for them. Their kids grew up with the same attitude so the cycle went on.

MY friend, you are continuing this arrogant perception. Since they were elected with no coalition, by your logic, millions must be of poor intellect, and of course we have good pompous old you to lecture them. Might it just be you with inferior intellect, as you seemed so hooked on the idea of intellect? The vast majority on this forum, irrespective of their political views, write very articulately, but you have simplistically managed to divide it all up into the brainy and stupid ones.

Basic moral principles are simple, some have them and others don't, I think we know which one you are. As I said earlier your very reasoned case for a caring society shows how you feel, no need to complicate things fella.

Well, I cannot help what you believe about me. The problem with exchanging views on here, with you, is that you take it too far. You go to PM, threatening. Then you start with the threatening phone calls, then you turn up at houses, offering people out. You have done this to at least 3 members on here. It's lucky no-one sees you as a threat because your behaviour is criminal. I mean, it is actually breaking the law and if you persist with it you will end up in a lot of trouble.

This is why this is the last exchange we will have, I suggest you adopt the same attitude.

Ho -hum, HH displaying the arrogant ' moral superiority' stance over those who don't happen to agree with his particular view of the world.

You've got your facts wrong again, probably deliberately , they usually are, I didn't threaten you with a phone call, I merely warned you that I would respond in kind should you continue to publish my details publicly on here , with Dave in Prague I turned up to a meeting that he invited me to and subsequently bottled out of , there, not quite the 'facts' you sought to present are they ? bet it isn't our 'last exchange' and you reply to this .
