Always buy a programme anyway, we will probably be there early so I will look through it with him as I think it will help. Also I'm hoping that by getting there early and letting the crowd build around him he might be less worried than if he walks into a full stadium.

I'm with Munkfish on this one.I reckon take him out to see a full stadium and it will blow his little socks off, I remember going to Wembley to a packed stadium in about 97, pretty much the best thing I had ever seen, still one of my greatest memories too.
When I take my daughter (7) I buy a pack of chocolate eclairs or similar and give her one every fifteen minutes. It helps to keep her going when things are a little quiet on the pitch (although I haven't had much of a problem so far this season!) and she pays more attention to the game in general and the time up on the big screens.
(If I don't give her set intervals I get bugged about "just another sweet" every 2 minutes, which isn't helpful when trying to watch the game.)
