Bit of a family gathering planned in Chichester this Sunday. 12 or so adults, 8 or so kids, looking to book a pub for lunch that welcomes the little people (garden with play equipment ideal) and serves up a nice Sunday roast. Would like to avoid 'Sky Sports TV' establishments, you know, a nice proper pub like.

Thanks in advance (for all the helpful suggestions...)

:drink:

I don't know if it's any good now, but The Gribble Inn, in Oving used to be quality. Not 'in' Chichester per se, but only a short car drive.

Hi,

I live in Chichester and have done all my life so hopefully I qualify for giving you advice??

If you are after a roast/carvery, then you would not go wrong with The Nags Head in St Pancras. It does have Skysports but it is in the bar/lounge area and not in the resturant. If you are after a country bumkin sort of pub then if you travel 10-15mins out of Chichester then I would definately recommend The Fox Goes Free lovely food, out in the sticks and large garden oh and no tv's.

I recommend booking for either as they will be busy as the are good places to eat.

If you need any more info, let me know.

Nag's Head in town, or possibly The Harvester just outside the city centre, near Sainsburys and Homebase.

Our local and certainly worth a go. The landlord is one of the nicest going, home cooked food, best atmosphere in a pub (friendly) you can find.

I'll second the Nags and Crown & Anchor. We're you ever a Punch House drinker SB? That was one of my regular stops in the 80's.

Thank you all! Nags Head booked for Sunday Lunch - might be a good idea to avoid it Sunday in that case!

(thanks to other suggestions, but really needed one in the centre of town).

Punch House is now a Jigsaws store.Used to drink there ocacasionally in the late 1960's,but our main watering holes were the Old Cross in the evening and the White Horse(now Prezzos) at lunchtime!
Happy days!

Hey Grummitts, yes I remember the Punch House, very dark with carpet that you stuck too! :lolol: My favorite pub was the White Horse, such a shame they closed it and turned it into yet another italian resturant!!

Wahey memories memories.........Hole in the wall used to be my starting place in the 80s/90s.....on to all the mentioned pubs to end up at The Punch house were a live band used to play on a Saturday night (sometimes)......but i am a bit confused Block F....The Punch house was also known as something else? I thought it was the Old Cross but i think that was the big pub going towards the Theatre car park?.......Too many pints consumed in Chichester in days gone by, it certainly was a good night out!
