I would suggest the complete opposite. If Chelsea wanted Caicedo, the absolute cheapest they could have got him was at the beginning of the window. The earlier business is done, the longer we have to prepare. The later in the window it gets, and the closer to pre-season, the higher the price. Exactly same logic as to why we don't do a lot of business in January.

Until we get to a point where, like Caicedo in January, we announce they are not for sale.

Unless, of course, Chelsea wanted to offer 3x the market value of a player, but they would never do that would they ?

Any example to prove your point, Chelsea sell Mount, Kovacic, Loftus-Cheek and Kante and only then start discussions about Caicedo. We know they are now much more in need of midfield reinforcements than they were a month ago and so the power shifts even more in our favour. It’s amateur stuff.

I do find that Chelsea and a lot of the bigger clubs really think its all about them. We have Chelsea saying ' Colwill is NOT for sale so go away ' but when we say the same about Caicedo , they don't go away. Total hypocrites. Then the football press suggest that we are the party-poopers because Chelsea don't get what they want. WE ARE THE EUROPEAN QUALIFIED TEAM, NOT BLOODY CHELSEA!

Lot's of build up, and then nothing(?) possibly to upset Caicedo, to get a stronger hand in negotiations?

Moises is in the gossip columns every other day. Even the BBC Sport site did a headline article asking which of three clubs he was going to ( ArseNil / MusicHall or DisUnited ) Its all uninformed conjecture made up by copywriters and with some input from agents and even a bit of stealth from interested clubs, just to stir things up a bit. Pure, unadulterated speculation.
The football world outside of BHA has just decided he is on his way. No thought given to whether we actually want to keep him. Or whether he is happy to stay and play in Europe. Or whether any club out there is willing to stump up north of £100m for a player who has only featured in the PL for one full season. That is what TB will look for, after the full market worth of Tross and Mac wasn't realised.
Arse are already spending £200m + and have filled the defensive midfielder role. Chelsea are wary of us and now see us as a threat. Negotiations will not be easy, particularly as we are eyeing up one of their crown jewels. Just can't see Utd spending that money on a defensive midfielder.
My gut feeling is that he could still stay. I don't believe TB is in a hurry to sell and may put a prohibitive price tag on him. We definitely need him next season, with four competitions looming.

Absolutely TB pulling strings with yes and no answers ---Barber wouldn't dare. If MC has another good season - they/whoever will pay what we want- we are in Europe Chelsea isnt --- wouldnt be surprised if another pay rise doesnt happen - or lump sum to family - the brash American will blink first - we know what TB is like with Money
