I get through earphones at a rate of about 8 or 9 pairs a year; this is because I always buy shit ones.

Can anyone recommend some relatively cheap (i.e. not more than £30-£35) pairs of earphones that are actually built to LAST, while not sounding shithouse? For jogging and stuff.

sennheisers are the best

Sennheiser PX100 - £17.99
Sound: Great - but also lets 'in' too much noise.
Fit: Heavy pressure on outer ear. Good for fit while jogging BUT can ache after a while.
Design: Over head, out of ear headphones. Nifty foldable storage capability.
Notable flaws: Lets out far too much noise to others.

Sennheiser CX300 (white) £29.97 (curry's)
Sound: Great
Fit: Great
Design: In-ear silicon buds
Flaw: The cable picks up on the shocks as you run.
Notes: This is a very popular choice BUT you can get better for your money apparently.

Sennheiser PMX-70 - around £20
Fit: great
Sound: it seems that they let in too much noise from traffic ect
Design: For Jogging. Slimline, lightweight, neck wrap.

Sennheiser MX 550 - under £20
Sound: Great/good
Fit: good
Design: in-ear foam buds with volume adjuster on chord.
Notable flaws: The volume adjuster has been reported as faulty after a few months. 2 year warranty though.

Sennheiser MX 85 Sport II - Around £25
Sound: Good/Great (bass isn't great apparently)
Fit: Mixed reviews, some say perfect, some say rubbish even after trying all silicon buds.
Design: For sport, in ear, silicon buds. neck clip

Sennheiser PMX80SPORT - Around £25
Sound: Good/Great (bass isn't great apparently)
Fit: Great*
Design: for Jogging. Neckband. in-ear. neck clip

I bought a pair of Sennheiser earphones (not in ear ones) for about £12 from Amazon a year ago and they are still going strong.

Sony never let me down, I think my current pair have even been in the washing machine and they still work! Good bass on them, and I can play my music pretty loud without others hearing it.

Sennheiser CX, or Klipsch in ear ones are pretty decent.

Used to use Sennys, but kept losing the ear buds, so went Klipsch for commuting as they were about half the price.

I bought some Jays a-ones from Richer sounds for £19.99. The sound quality is amazing and best of all they don't tangle up as they have flat cables.

Not really a disadvantage - if you go jogging with headphones/earbuds that let in too little sound you may well get run over.

If you don't mind having fairly plain packaging and forgoing the little leather pouch that normally comes with the CX300s then the Eco version will save you a few quid too:

I quite like the little pouch but I still have one from my last pair that I managed to lose so I've just bought these and the sound is excellent for a sub 30 quid pair of phones. I would recommend spending money that you save on some better tips; I find the default Senny ones to be a bit too difficult to get in just the right position for the best sound. I use a pair of these instead: Comply™ Foam Tips - Replacement Earphone Tips
