What is it? How does it work?
My grandson said invest in Microsoft now, is he right then?I really need to have a play with this. Is it clever than humans - not even close. But it is very clever. I have watched a couple of Youtube videos where it is asked to write code - one for the 40 year old Commodore 64 basic. And it sort of does. I mean it does but it nearly always needs debugging. I believe Microsoft are looking at putting it into Bing so you can chat with the search engine.
On the basis of them adding something to their very much minority search engine? Probably not. But then I have no idea.My grandson said invest in Microsoft now, is he right then?
It dredges (searches the internet) looking for phrases that relate to what you have asked it. Then it pastes it together and creates something sort of almost like what you asked for. What is it? How does it work?
Intelligence as a concept is a many faceted thing, with multiple definitions and theories. My grandson says that it's more intelligent than humans is it?
What does this mean to mankind? I worry about the future employment of youngsters.
Who is the expert that can tell us exactly where this is going?
Thanks for your help.
Maybe teaching has come on some, but teachers appeared to just repeat and rinse years ago.Grandson says he has different teachers all the time, I suppose one thing teachers have over this is personality, whether that it's good or bad!In theory, no. Teaching is about so much more than just regurgitating facts.
Whether the British government realises that is another thing entirely.
Kinda, its trained on vast data sets. In Chat GPTs case, as far as 2021. So it doesn't know about anything since then.It dredges (searches the internet) looking for phrases that relate to what you have asked it. Then it pastes it together and creates something sort of almost like what you asked for.
Why would any AI technology be worrying? Now or in the futureI am being glib.
I get it. But with results like that, we have some way to go before we start worrying.
I have no doubt a future version of this will perform some jobs and make human workers obsolete. However, we don’t need to worry about a judgment day scenario just yet.
Not that that’s what you were implying .
Teaching has advanced hugely in the last three decades. It’s definitely no longer learning by rote or regurgitating the same dusty old text as in previous generations.Maybe teaching has come on some, but teachers appeared to just repeat and rinse years ago.Grandson says he has different teachers all the time, I suppose one thing teachers have over this is personality, whether that it's good or bad!
I like that! Will it learn to become creative over time? As that would surely change everything.Intelligence as a concept is a many faceted thing, with multiple definitions and theories.
Certainly, there is a n argument that the latest AI's like ChatGPT have met the conditions of the Turing test: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turing_test
GPT also has much better memory recall than humans
It certainly writes better than me and has better grammar the me!
However, It's not yet more creative than humans
But it's advancing rapidly.
We are a team of 30 odd immersive technologists and are already using chatGPT and other AI engines to complete lots of mundane repetitive tasks, thus freeing us up to add more value, in areas like creativity.
A colleague gaver a good analogy yesterday, a portrait painting. AI can now do the background, the body, the lighting and all sorts of stuff. But we are still needed to paint the head and the hands
Is having 'personality' a good thing when teaching? it certainly can be, but it also means teachers have favourites, make judgements, deliver learning inconsistently and do all sorts of other perfectly understandable human things.Maybe teaching has come on some, but teachers appeared to just repeat and rinse years ago.Grandson says he has different teachers all the time, I suppose one thing teachers have over this is personality, whether that it's good or bad!
Let's just say, it's at least as clever as the Tories in all those matters. Can it solve the climate crisis, pay nurses what they deserve, or stop hungry families having to go to food banks?
Its only going to improve and right now the improvements are exponential. Buckle inI like that! Will it learn to become creative over time? As that would surely change everything.
Bing, you say? I only ever used it twice. The second time was to search for google (now in my toolbar)I really need to have a play with this. Is it clever than humans - not even close. But it is very clever. I have watched a couple of Youtube videos where it is asked to write code - one for the 40 year old Commodore 64 basic. And it sort of does. LOL. Some years ago, I was enthralled by a young chimp at Barcelona zoo, who grabbed a rag off another chimp and ran off. He then climbed up on some 'rocks' and proceeded to dangle it in front of the other chimp, just out of reach. When the other chimp tried to climb up, the young chimp got hold of the ropes and held those just out of reach as well. We were in fits of laughter. Hours of entertainment. What is it? How does it work?
