Incredible work if so. Hell, it's incredible work anyway. Whether the brothers wanted to die or not, to save hostages from this is unbelievable.

In which case - and we don't know for sure yet - there's a reasonable chance that the French police and military may well have played the proverbial blinder. Let's see.

French police have stormed two hostage sites in Paris and north of the city.

Gunshots and explosions have been heard at a printworks warehouse in Dammartin-en-Goele, where two suspects in the Charlie Hebdo shootings were holding at least one hostage.

French media are reporting that the two suspects, brothers Cherif and Said Kouachi, have been killed.

Just slipped out that the French policewoman who was killed on Thursday was shot in the back of the head. I hope there is a particularly hotter, more painful part of hell set aside for the supermarket gunman who apparently did it.

every innocent life lost is, of course, a tragedy. Every life saved is a tremendous victory for the French forces.
