As a security check the pat down was half hearted and wouldn't have discovered anything on someone determined to smuggle something into the ground. Seemed no more than a PR exercise to show that something was being done.

... [Security] have no idea what they are looking for and what idiot armed with guns and a suicide belt is going to dutifully queue up and then allow his bomb and weapons to be found by some plum in a flourescent orange jacket.

and thus the purpose of security was fulfilled.

Very aggressive metal detector searches in 1901 - very strange if it wasn't done elsewhere. Full on airport style wand searches. Whether they didn't want to pat down those they perceive as corporates, I don't know but two very aggressive South London style bouncers causing long delays and refusing people on clothing when it has only ever been lounges that there was a dress code.

Fair enough if there is a specific threat but there were quite a few disgruntled patrons in my lounge.
