A tremendous loss for London 2012, really it is.

Meopham, Kent.
I think that's a shame. He's served his punishment, and other "drugs cheats" will be there, having served theirs, so why treat him differently?

The real shame is the fact that nobody from GB will be there.

? except the 2 lads that run the quali time
Where are they in world standings, outside medal chance, final, semi's?

Genuine question, I'm not being an arse, intentionally!

A lot of athletes hoping to go to the Olympics are not going to the European's (Not just here in the UK but over Europe). Stupid idea from the EAAF to have them every 2 years.

Adam Gemili is new "star". 18 years old, professional footballer at Dagenham but ran 10.08 a few weeks back and finished 2nd behind Chambers in the trials.

One is 18 that even Bolt has commented on, he will be luky to make the final i would think but the experience will do him the world of good, and his potential is endless it seems, the other lad finished 3rd at the trials but im not sure on his standard

Thanks.
It does kind justify my point.

We could get into mine and Barrel of Fun 's debate as to:-

Are the Olympics a good place to take someone who will be lucky to make the final i would think but the experience will do him the world of good.
But that will probably result in you seeing me as being an arse and I haven't got time at the moment.
Plus I know it will come up in and around August anyway.

Chambers is not going to make the final anyway, and still has not run the qualification time.

Nope, as it should be.

So, the blue ribbon event of our Olympics, for which many many millions of pounds have been pumped into, won't have a home competitor.

I've been brought up to speed on this in the other Chambers thread.

Thought Helsinki was the last meeting that could count.

To be fair its just the BBA getting round the courts decision to overturn the ban.
Bit of a piss take sending the two runners who finished 6 & 7th at the Birmingham trials, instead.

Would of thought you would send your best atheletes to compete. It would be like the ENgland football team taking a second rate winger like Ashley Young to the Euros..... Oh Hang on a minute.....

There has always been a qualifying standard I thought, and he has not met it yet, so they are perfectly entitled to leave him out.

If he gets it he deserves to go, simples.

There are lots of countries at the Olympics, and just EIGHT lanes on the 100m track. Why would you EXPECT us to have an athlete make it?

The article actually says it's likely he will go as part of the 6 man team which is whittled down to 4 for the 4 x 100m. It also says that the rules have been relaxed and his time from Brazil last May may count for him. Wholly misleading headline and everyone has jumped on it.

he ran it last year. apparently that will be good enough

Analysis
Matt Slater
BBC sports news reporter Unless Harry Aikines-Aryeetey and Mark Lewis-Francis do something spectacular, Dwain Chambers has as good as booked his London 2012 ticket. He might not have run an 'A' standard this season, but he clocked one in May 2011. That, with his trials win, should do it. And he is not alone in having to rely on his back catalogue: he is just the most controversial. But the fact Chambers is in the relay in Helsinki, suggests UK Athletics thinks he is worth the trouble

I get the impression that we will take him for sure to London and the selection of the other two is to get them into some sort of form and hit the qualifying times. If not Chambers would surely go to the Euros looking for that time wouldn,t he having won at the weekend.
