Beats “it is what it is”

Or, if you’re of the north London persuasion, “it’s who we are mate”

'Challenge' isn't punk enough. Needs to be 'f*** the establishment'.
Who needs the establishment? The phrase is not about us at all really. It’s saying look at these big clubs, I wish we were them.

Well, f*** ‘em I say. I don’t want Brighton to be Chelsea or United, if that’s what you want f*** off and support a big club.

A simple We Are Brighton would be far better. Says it all in three words.

I did the stadium tour a couple of years ago, and there are different phrases EVERYWHERE as part of the decoration!

Just looking through my pictures from the changing room / tunnel area, I can see 'ALWAYS TOGETHER' , 'RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW', 'UP THE ALBION', 'WE ARE BRIGHTON, SUPER BRIGHTON', 'SEAGULLS', 'STAND OR FALL'.

It's likely to be exactly the same at the training ground; lots of different phrases which encapsulate the team, club, story, aims etc. 'Challenge the establishment' is obviously a new one, but just one wall mural amongst many. I can't see the big deal.

I don’t think it encapsulates the club, I think it’s what the club want people to think of them. Like when we used to go on about being “Premier League ready”.

I think it says a lot that the club are pushing that ahead of many of the other phrases you mention, which actually do talk to the clubs culture and history:

It’s just corporate bullshit that gets justified after someone gets paid a five figure sum to spend two days brainstorming “motivational” phrases to stick on a poster.

What a weird thing to be triggered about. Still, 'Each to their Own'.

I "challenge the establishment" by taking bottle tops into the ground. Shove that in your pipe PBOBE and smoke it - I'm following the slogan.

Just imagine if we could do it against the DREGS as well.
Yes, that's the next step. To develop that ruthless streak, next year's phrase will be "Imagine a boot stamping on a human face forever", sometimes coupled with " Naff off, you low block nerks".

(With apologies to George Orwell and Norman Stanley Fletcher)

I would humbly submit that;
1) rallying against corporate wank is akin to pushing back the tide and
2) there are other things worth starting threads about if you're so inclined; surely someone from the 60s that only 3 people on here have heard of has died and needs an RIP?

"We are Brighton", sounds a bit lame to me. Especially if that is the only phrase written everywhere. It suggests maybe the players are idiots who need reminding what team they are currently employed by.

For this reason, I'm out.

I saw this phrase in a photo plastered over the wall behind Tzimas presumably somewhere at the club’s training ground. What a load of bullshit.

That is all.
Is it though? Really?

Chat GPT (I know, I know), says:

"Challenge the establishment" means questioning, opposing, or pushing back against the existing social, political, or cultural systems and power structures. The "establishment" refers to the dominant, traditional, or established institutions, norms, and authority figures within society. When someone "challenges the establishment," they are advocating for change or reform, often by criticizing the status quo or proposing alternatives that may disrupt or shift the balance of power.

Given the way the Albion goes about its business – in a way that has been widely applauded by rival fans and clubs as well as people outside of the football world – I'd say it's pretty spot on. Having SUCH an issue with it is pretty weird. IMO, like.
