Challenge for those demanding a striker

Pork pie land.
I do fear that we are on course for a bottom 6 finish without a new striker and midfielder. Vicente is unlikely to start in many games I believe and Dicker should not be in the starting 11.

Indeed, but I am happy for the midfielder to be a last minute signing, as we are not missing one at the moment.

Oh my.

You do realise we have the SAME midfield and strikeforce as last season but now with a BETTER defence and keeper.

Where on EARTH is your logic?

Was just trying to demonstrate how expensive strikers are. Jay Rodriguez cost stains 7million. He seems like the kind of level people are expecting.

The fees paid out originally for the likes of Holt, Lambert, Te, Chopra, M.Phillips, etc were a fraction of that, and were/are all class in the Championship.
Just shows that type of striker can be found.

Bottom 6?! I think this might just be the biggest knee-jerk reaction to a couple of goalless games I've seen in a long time. We've enough quality to finish mid-table regardless of whether we sign a striker or not, and if we do get one in then we'll comfortably push for play-offs.

We'll see. In the last 10 games of last season and the first 3 of this our strike rate has been very poor compared to most other Championship clubs and we are going to struggle unless we can put the ball in the net. Goals invariably equal points.

Having a better goalie and defence must be worth about another 6 points than last season at least. Still got Buckley & Hoskins to come back. I'll go for 8th place finish for us and I reckon we will smash Barnsley on Saturday.

It's August 31st, the clock is ticking, no new striker signing looks likely, and then, at the 11th hour, Glenn Murray is spotted at The Amex having a medical....

I'd say 8th to 10th.

But with the amazing crowds & SE England wealth & pricing (e.g. corporate income), and no interest-bearing debt; we could be a top 4 team now with 1 or 2 proven strikers.

No we don't! We do not have the loan players, and do have Crofts. Do keep up!

Our midfield and strikeforce against Donny last season

10 Sparrow (Buckley - 75' )
18 Dicker
25 LuaLua Booked (Noone - 46' )
26 Bridcutt
09 Barnes
12 Mackail-Smith

So replace Sparrow with welsh internation and ex-prem midfielder CROFTS....I think that proves my point.

Backed up by Class Wayne Bridge (brilliant last night), Bruno (again, brilliant) and Kusczzackdhak in goal, that cant POSSIBLE be a worse team. Every change has been an improved one.

So we do not have the PREMIERSHIP loan players, and have Crofts back. Why not just admit you were talking bollox? That is the point!

Premiership loan players....

Reyes (not as good as Bruno)
Mattock (not as good as Bridge)
Assulin (Didnt really make any impact)
Vokes (Better than nothing, but didnt really do that well)
Rasak (Had 1 great game then faded - not as consistent as Crofts)

The only case you can make is for Vokes, apart from that we have better players than the loanees last season.

Exactly. He has no clue what he is talking about.

It's not about finding a striker who will score 25 goals a season as they are very hard to come by and very expensive, Its about finding the right striker who's worth 25 goals a season to the team through scoring, assisting and creating space for other players to take advantage of.

Totally agree with this. But the lack of goals is not simply not having a striker, it's more about the way we play. There's little point getting the ball into the box if we have one striker in there surrounded by 3 or 4 defenders. The central midfield have to get forward to support attacks, but last night I didn't see Dicker or Crofts ever get into attacking positions. Having spoken to Navs at the end of last season when I accused him of being negative, he said he was just playing exactly as he had been toldand now at Swindon, as we saw, he has more freedom to join in attacks. We had a chance to attack more last night when Vicente came on but we still played with one forward after that as Gus pushed CMS wide.

Gus will not rush this, as mentioned previously we are on a 3-4 season squad building path.

The fact he has delivered some amazing players this season already Bridge, Kuszczak and Bruno show the quality and temprement he is after. He will not panic buy and have to rely on loans if need be until the next two transfer windows open. If a striker that fills the bill and the budget is avalible now, great, if not we wait.

Thank you for your valued contribution. HOWEVER, the prat had said:

"Oh my.

Which was clearly crap, as we do not have the loan players, and have Crofts now. That is all.
