How can they 'kickout' Portsmouth unless they are wound up. They would then have to give the winners of the Spurs Fulham tie a bye through to the final as they could not reinstate Birmingham who have legitimately lost on the field. The FA rules probably do not cover such a move as to allow Brum back in.

Didn't a team lose a couple of seasons ago and then got let back in?

My memory's sketchy on it but I'm sure there's a precedent for this.

Don't you lot read the papers? Pompey have been assured that they won't be kicked out by the FA.

Do you believe everything you read in the papers? If HMRC win in the courts there will be no Portsmouth FC so the decision will not rest with the FA.

HMRC appear to be getting the hump with football clubs and sooner or later a judge is going to rule in their favour and a club will be wound up, why should it not be Portsmouth as opposed to anybody else.

I can't remember who it was (I was thinking Darlington), but I am sure a team were reinstated as the winners had fielded an ineligible player.

The journalist in this article believed that Southampton could be reinstated if Portsmouth were liquidated.

That would be in order because there is a rule to cover the eligibillty of players but probably not if a club is wound up. I am not sure just hazarding a guess.

But the point remains the FA cannot gaurantee they will not exclude Portsmouth, as the matter may be taken out of their hands by the courts.

Talking of Portsmouth, I thought they'd gone into administration, so why isn't their points total showing -9?

It needs to be confirmed by the Premier League according to ITV on saturday.

Speaking of ITV.... Anyone else get massively pissed off by ITV making Portsmouth out to be the Victims?

Possibly something to do with HMRC challenging the process by which they have appointed the Administrator (allegedly he has links with the club, or the guy that owns it). They probably want to go for the jugular and wind them up, being as they've already declared them insolvent.

However, to all intents and purposes, they ARE now widely acknowledged as being in administration. Perhaps Scudamore is still in denial, and can't bear having an asterix next to one of his member clubs.

Yeah, just a tad.
Especially when I keep hearing about those "long suffering Pompey fans". Oh, those would be the ones who have just enjoyed 8 years in the Premier League, a team stuffed full of Internationals, an FA Cup, Europe, and another semi final (all on credit of course).

Those poor bastards eh. Luton and Bournemouth fans ? Pah, they don't know they're BORN.

I know they say they are but can they only do so if HMRC say its OK, I mean has it been blocked?

Dunno, but it seems to have further muddied the waters sufficiently enough for the points deduction to be put on hold for the time being, at least until the next hearing.

Ooooh yes, that gets on my nerves too.

Long suffering, MY ARSE. I bet Wembley was a RIGHT bloody chore, wasn't it, and that promotion from the Championship, and that HORRENDOUS European tie against Milan, yeah it must be a total nightmare being a Pompey fan.

The longer this goes on, TBH, the more I start to think (albeit a tad guiltily) that you know what? I wouldn't really care if they got wound up. There. I said it. I am bad. It has to happen in football some time, to give some of the clubs in this country the kick up the arse that's been coming for a long while.

Worse things happen at sea: Pompey would re-form quickly thanks to a few dedicated/stupid-wig-wearing fans, take a place at a fairly high non-league level, hoover up the tenancy for Fratton Park or switch to Havant & Waterlooville (where they've apparently already got an agreement to play), and the world moves on. Nobody dies.
