"Non-payment would result in the club being wound up and placed into administration.

Such a move would then see the club penalised with a 10-point deduction from the Football League. "

Um, am I being thick here? If a club is wound up, why is there a need for a points deduction?

I can't believe that the fans allowed him to take the job. Even after that event the alarm bells should have been ringing when he mentioned the words "Premier League" and "Dream".

I believe it was originally Hammam who brought him into the club. Hammam had failed to relocate Wimbledon and sold them for £30m (I'm not sure what they owned other than the name).

Shady business seems to follow those two about.

My thought exactly. My understanding of administration is that it is an action a business takes by choice and to allow it to try and structure etc to continue to trade.

Being wound up means it ceases trading - surely you can't do both ???

Maybe the "and" should have been an "or".

They appear to be trying to string it out so if they get promoted they can claim to be properly solvent with the Premiership money on it's way.

That won't work. I know for a fact that HMC have run out of patience and that unless full settlement is made by the deadline given by the court then they are screwed.

Yeah, I see that. String it out, hopefully get promoted, don't sign anyone on huge contracts in the prem knowing that they will get relegated with a season's worth of prem tv money and then the parachute payments and they'll be on a sound financial footing. I really f***ing hope that doesn't happen.

You'd be pissed off if you supported a financially sound club challenging for the play-offs and Cardiff got there ahead of you. They should have sold players in the window to pay their bills, they have two of the chmpionships top scorers in their squad

Same for our old favourites. If Portmouth can't afford to pay their tax bills they can't afford to pay their over-paid loan signings. Yet they have a Wembley semi-final. It is cheating.

Cardiff representative, Elaine Palser, argued the club was solvent and that an Asian businessman, who has already invested £500,000 into the club, "has indicated he will give it £6million". "We are confident that these funds are coming in," she said. "This is not an insolvent company. There is £36m of net assets, and the players are worth about £30m."

Methinks she's been spending far too long on planet Storrie / Ridsdale.
And if this asian businessman (always from the other side of the planet, these investors eh) has said he will give the club £6m, then why in the name of FRIG hasn't he started off by clearing this £1.9m tax bill already ?

Bullshit bullshit bullshit all the way, and I'm happy HMRC are severely clamping down on this now. This is the wake-up call, and the cocks are crowing BIG time.

How can they 'kickout' Portsmouth unless they are wound up. They would then have to give the winners of the Spurs Fulham tie a bye through to the final as they could not reinstate Birmingham who have legitimately lost on the field. The FA rules probably do not cover such a move as to allow Brum back in.
