FA CUP FINALISTS CARDIFF ARE SET TO BE GIVEN THE GREEN LIGHT TO PLAY IN EUROPE SEASON AFTER BEING APPROVED AS POTENTIAL UEFA CUP REPRESENTATIVES.
THE FA'S PROFESSIONAL GAME BOARD GAVE THEIR BACKING IF THE WELSH CLUB BEAT PORTSMOUTH IN NEXT MONTHS FINAL.
THE BLUEBIRDS WOULD ALSO QUALIFY AS RUNNERS-UP IF HARRY REDKNAPP'S POMPEY FINISH FIFTH IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE.
THE DECISION WILL BE RATIFIED NEXT WEEK BY THE MAIN BOARD AND UEFA.

Too right, if they win the cup they get into Europe. They have the small matter of overcoming Pompey first though.

I hadn't really thought much about the Cup Final but it might be the first time as a neutral that I don't want the underdog to win, strange as that may seem. I guess the good old Beeb will play it up as an England versus Wales encounter, not so much David and Goliath, more David and George.

For all the drama of the F.A Cup this season it shows that really shocks aren't that good for the competition when you get two sides such as Cardiff and Portsmouth in Englands showpiece football event.

Can't be any worse than last years snoozefest between two of the best sides in the country.

I think it's fantastic, exactly what the FA Cup is all about.

What a load of old cock. Did you think that in 1983 perchance ?

The final will be quality. However I must confess that Portsmouth v West Brom and Cardiff v Barnsley didn't excite me enough to make me watch the semi finals. I would however most definitely have Portsmouth v Cardiff as the final than Man Utd v Chelsea or any other combination of the top 4.

Yep there are 3 UEFA cup places, and because Spurs won the League Cup, and won't qualify for Europe through the League, they have one, there is one for the FA cup winner/losing finalist, and that leaves one for the league.

What happens to the winner of the Fair Play League, don't they get a place in the UEFA cup as well?

ahh just read this
Current standings

Norway top the current UEFA Fair Play rankings, and would automatically receive one of the UEFA Cup berths if they are still there when the final rankings are released at the start of May.

England, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Finland, Spain and Estonia are the other seven countries currently in the frame for one of the two places awarded via the Fair Play draw, which will be held at the City of Manchester Stadium on 13 May at 14.30 (15.30GMT), between the pre-match press conferences before the UEFA Cup final.

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
they wont need the green light pompey are def gona win for the good of england

There are more English players in the Cardiff squad, I think. Surely a Championship winning side would raise the profile of the English Football League, rather than keep it 'in house' (The Prem).

Obviously it's different when it's your team but as a neutral you want to see the best teams and the best players playing in Englands showpiece club event.

I think that our qualifiers will be Spurs- League Cup, Portsmouth - FA Cup, Everton - League position.

I personally believe that to enter Europe it should be mandatory that you are in the highest division within your countries system. Premiership, La Liga, Seria A etc.

An excellent reason to support Cardiff in the Cup, as if the fact they play the Pompey SCUM wasn't reason enough. :tosser: :tosser: :tosser: :tosser:
