I was getting concerned at one stage this season…… but like all top players he came good.

He’s becoming as good as anyone I’ve seen in the Brighton goal..

Got zero problem with player trading because it IS part of our model. I have a huge problem with ITKs and pundits speaking with such authority and inevitability (of player x leaving) because the approach is from a bigger club. Our chairman is as big a fan as any of us. He’s £350m in the hole. At the end of the day it’s his definition of sustainability that matters and that can equally mean holding onto a star player.

I would debate whether Sanchez is a better goalkeeper now - Bazunu is developing so fast that he will be a top 10 PL goalkeeper by Christmas.

As for the silly jibe about Irish players - I never claimed that Brighton's recruitment should be based on Irish players - I recommend irish players because I know them - I have no idea who the kid from Paraguay is.

Selling a £50m+ keeper in order to buy a £20m keeper who stunts the development of 3 free (ish) keepers is the logic of someone who doesn't have a clue.

I’ve heard that Bazunu has a world class save in him or two. However, unlike Southampton, we don’t concede that many shots against us. I’d be shocked if the Bazunu had anything like the long and short passing game of Sanchez. That ping to Cucu in the Manure game was something that Ederson would have been proud of. We need an Ederson style keeper who is playing a lot in the sweeper position. That’s why Southampton only paid £12m and Sanchez is worth at least quadruple that.

It always impresses/surprises/amuses me when people make such bold statements.

Sanchez isn't remotely close to being the keeper Bazunu is now? And won't even develop into a keeper as good as Bazunu is now?

The chances of any of the three goalkeepers you mention becoming a top PL goalkeeper are very slim - its the nature of underage football. Bazunu is 20 years old (2 years younger than the Dutch keeper you mention) and is already going to be a starting keeper. Sanchez will be gone before too long (probably for big money) - and the club will then have to find a replacement ( and it will be very unlikely it will be one of the 3 you mention) - Bazunu could have been that keeper - he could have been bought for a bargin basement prive and sold for a huge fee in 3/4 years time.

You do realise that Bazunu has been at Man City for the past 4 years and you are aware of what Man City goalkeepers are expected to do. - Bazunu played the role you are talking about at Man City in their underage teams - and at Rochdale and Portsmouth while on loan (it was a stipulation of the loan agreements). Southampton got Bazunu for a bargain because Ederson is only 27 - if they held onto Bazunu he would have walked at the end of his contract. Instead they made £10m profit and inserted a buyback clause just in case anything happens to Ederson.

I would point out that I have been pretty much spot-on when I talk about Irish players (three years ago I said that Connolly was behind Parrott, Idah and Obafemi - practically everyone on here attempted to ridicule me - and I have been proven right). Bazunu is going to be a world class goalkeeper for the next 15/20 years - and he always was going to be from the day he made his debut for Shamrock Rovers at 16 (I was standing behind the goal during his second ever LOI game - and everyone at the match could see that this kid was going to be special - his anticipation was second to none - he was great with the ball at his feet - he never got ruffled or fazed by anything he faced).

Southampton have got him on a five year contract and Bazunu will pretty much guarantee their PL status for however long he is there - and they will probably end up getting at least £50-60m for him when he leaves.

Best crop of kids that Ireland has ever had moving through the underage ranks - now - not all of them will make it as professional footballers. The people who are involved with and who following the Irish underage set-up are raving about the potential of the kids. Ireland usually had a situation where you might have one kid breaking into the full international team every year or two - but in five years time the entire Irish team will be made up of these kids (or maybe some others who haven't shown their potential yet) - the average age of the irish squad will drop dramatically and I would be surprised if anyone currently over 25 years of age will be in the team in five years.

The closest that it reminds me of is the mid-1970s when the likes of Liam Brady, David O'Leary, Mark Lawrenson, Gerry Daly, Frank Stapleton, Micky Walsh, Jimmy Holmes, Chris Hughton, Tony Grealish, Davy Langan, John Devine and Gerry Ryan all came into the squad within a couple of years of one another. That was a really good Irish squad that was robbed of qualification for both the Euros and the World Cup by corrupt referees.
