Perhaps Calderon suggested to Gus that Vicente should start game, as they seem to be close since Vicente came to club and Gus didn't like it. Maybe after 20 mins against Liverpool and half hour against Leeds Calderon suggested he was ready to start. It was Vicente poorest performance so far when he came on, thats for sure. You would think after the two week break after the Ipswich game surely he will be up to full fitness and a shoe in for a starting place.

I dont know but would think that Gus is very much his own man and when he says something he sticks by it to the end irrespective of any harm it may cause but he will not give in.

It was clearly a late call, that would have disrupted all the pre match plans etc etc.....Calderon should have played and they should have sorted it out today...Pride before a fall clearly come to mind in Poyet's case on this one....However great Poyet is he is paid to win football matches for Brighton and Hove Albion and last night he made a very bad team selection decision. That said he is a young manager and will make mistakes, think we can forgive the odd one now and then.

I agree and hence the 'big clubs' will not come in for him until he has learnt a bit more.

absolutely spot on... some of this thread is just plain crazy... how come all of a sudden Poyet doesn't seem to have a clue??

one game lost at home all season, 2 points from the top after 9 games and playing only our 5 season in the top 2 divisions in 20 odd years. Some of you lot need a very sharp reality check!!!

Didn't he once say that Calderon wouldn't play for the team again during that on/off Southampton move business?

I've just managed to cope with watching the highlights on Player and you can clearly see Calderon & Poyet hugging each other as the teams come out. There doesn't seem to be any animosity between them but of course, there are posters who think they know better. Maybe Calde was disciplined, maybe he deserved it. Who knows? The boss is the gaffer and it's his decision. The Gus bus wheels haven't come off, the tyres just need pumping up again to the right pressure.

I would have played Cook and kept Vincelot as a sub if he wanted to stick with Dicker. Yes Tanno did well but for a limited time which Gus knew as he is 37 years old, what did Vincelot do wrong?

Have to say that he didn't look as good as the standard he has set himself....but then u cud say that about the whole team last night,,,,,next match please

Thanks Thunder Bolt, that's all I wanted to hear. I don't mind a tactical change, but team disharmony is a different plate of paella ....!

I haven't said anything about Poyet or his tactics, but one thing that bugs me is this "you musn't dare say ANYTHING about Gus"..... others who are expressing their opinion are being jumped on.

For the record I have complete faith in Gus, as I do my wife......... and as I love my wife, I accept she isn't perfect and doesn't always get it right..... the same should be allowed to be expressed about our manager by those who choose.

Faith and objective opinion is good blind faith and suppressed opinion isn't

I agree with you LR their are loads of kneejerk armchair managers, and I won't personally say owt about Gus, but if someone thinks he got it wrong, I personally like and value their perspectives even if I don't always agree.

We just don't know what went on, so we're not in a position to judge. Murray is a good striker, good enough to play for us, but Gus let him go for reasons we don't know. And why Calderon was out yesterday, we just don't know. Gus has to think about the long term for the club and this team, and make sure everyone plays as a team and does what Gus says. If that means a good player needs to be dropped, so be it, even if it harms one performance. Think of the times Fergie has left stars out - you play his way, or you're out, and over the years that's made him (and his team) more successful than any other manager.

Of course Gus isn't the perfect manager (no one is), he's not even the best (he's new), but the point is, the people who are criticising him tend to be talking shit. There's no point saying what he did or didn't do right with Calderon, because we're not in a position to know the facts. There was a post earlier saying that Gus needs to learn that substitutions can be used to change tactics, not just personnel - WTF? As if he won league one on a small budget without knowing more than everyone here.

Personally, I think Calderon deserved to be dropped anyway, bust up or not. Has not been the same player since the on-off thing with Southampton. His defensive deficiencies have been exposed this season.
