Should they be banned?

Irrelevance.

They already are. They are a pit bull breed and should not be owned by anyone.

At the very least they should have a muzzling order on them.

I have no idea why anyone other than a criminal moron would want to own such an ugly, dangerous, monster. Let alone have it in the house.

I’d like to see the breed wiped out.

What say you?

The way I see it, if you own a banned breed, and your dog kills someone, it’s an extension of you. I’d like the law to treat is as if you’ve personally committed the crime.

If your banned dog kills someone - that should be a murder charge.

It's an interesting thought, but then does that mean parents should pay for the crimes their children commit, and perhaps their grandchildren too?

Adult humans are legally culpable whereas an animal can't be tried in court, therefore it's the owners responsibility to ensure they control their animals correctly.

Like women taking precautions against predatory men, we all need to accept responsibility for our own safety with these types of breed eg see one, leave immediately. No amount legislation is going to prevent essentially. And action taken after the event is always too late. Shouldn’t have to be this way, but that’s the reality of life. The dickheads took over the asylum ages ago. Just look at America for any number of examples.

Nope - you chose to own a dog bred for violence. I would not hesitate to wipe out every single dog that was/similar to XL's or like types.
Without delay or question.
Alternatively, let me own a leopard/tiger/gun. *

*For clarity, I wish to 'own' none of the above.

May I call 'bollocks', to that?
"Accept responsibility"?
No need - simply (and easily) ban the f***ing things, or do you want to wait until one of them has ripped-off your face or that of your nearest and dearest?
Sake.

Ah but you see it’s always “out of character” and the dog just snapped out of the blue, how is anyone supposed to predict that? Apart from the last dozen cases where the owners and witnesses said the exact same thing.

The poster above compared it to kids. Well kids in gangs are getting stabbed and shot. It’s a tragedy, but everyone after the event saying “he was a good boy, he didn’t do nuffin” is extremely unhelpful in addressing the reality of the situation. If your kid who is in a gang gets into trouble with the law or hurt, it’s because of their actions. If you own a dangerous breed and it kills you or your family members, or worse an innocent member of the public, then unlike with a child this is solely on you.
