They already are. They are a pit bull breed and should not be owned by anyone.

At the very least they should have a muzzling order on them.

I have no idea why anyone other than a criminal moron would want to own such an ugly, dangerous, monster. Let alone have it in the house.

I’d like to see the breed wiped out.

Saw the Mum interviewed this morning, she talked a lot of sense. Then there was an interview with a woman from the Dogs Trust wittering about stopping these dogs before they attacked rather than a ban, no suggestion as to how this could be done. Just said all dogs can bite and against any ban. How the Mum kept her cool I don't know.

I beg to differ. These dogs are bred for fighting and bred to be aggressive. You can’t train or socialise that out of them. IMO.

Quite ... and I'd be amazed if many (any) decent families who invest in proper training and socialising would want one of these breeds anyway.

After seeing the video's yesterday, I was on a train heading back to Shoreham when at a stop just before Worthing, a chavy lad got on with a dog and sat across the aisle from me. I'm not great with dogs but think it was a Staffie ... and he looked as though he was getting on a bit ... but because of the videos, I felt really uncomfortable. The dog was fine and just settled down ... but I am quite nervous around dogs given some of the experiences I've had on long walks in Greece where dogs are used to guard property. They're usually secured on a long chain ... apart from one I came across when I thought my time was up. It was a Doberman (or similar) on the loose ... but fortunately once I'd done an about turn and slowly walked the other way, he remained at the edge of the property boundary!!! Nearlymyself!!!

Last year as my partner and I were walking home from the park with our do we were approached / ran at, out of nowhere by one of these on the loose. We didn't know then it was one of these dogs, but it was still pretty scary at the time, you could tell it could do some damage if it wanted to. This was made worse by the fact our dog is nervous/reactive, which means she can easily bark at other dogs from a defensive perspective.

Anyway, it actually seemed relatively friendly and thought it best to take them home until we found the owner, who we did eventually as they were looking/calling in the street. Apparently a tradesman had left their gate open...

Have been thinking today this could have ended differently! But, on the other hand it was OK, potentially just lucky.

Which is why we need legislation that takes into account jaw power, muscle density, size etc. not just breed.

However, the Bully is not a new breed and is not recognised by the Kennel Club as such.

It is a pit bull that has been bred to be bigger. It is already banned, nobody should own one, and those that exist should all be put down.

Bully XLs specifically are not banned in the UK because they are outside the breed standard for a Pitbull, hence the clamour for addition to the list of banned breeds. There is no specific way to establish a breed other than the standard and then unscrupulous breeders just breed outside that standard. There is also then the chance that other previously fashionable breeds like Rottweilers are picked up instead.

I like the idea of setting a limit to dog size/power but the UK has enough trouble enforcing its existing laws. I would like to see much more legislation around licensing of owners, importers, and breeders but cannot see it happening.

If you find yourself in the unfortunate position of being attacked by a dog or see a dog attacking someone else apparently if you jam a finger roughly up it’s butt hole it stops attacking. Thankfully never had to put this theory to the test although I guess it’s worth a try Google has mixed reviews

If a dog is biting you, most likely it will be your arm or hand, obviously the dog's head will be close meaning it's butt hole isn't.
A better idea is to jam a finger (or thumb) into its eye socket, both eyes if you can.

Someone else said that these dogs will fight on through pain, maybe true, but if you take away it's ability to see, then punching on nose, kicking in the nads, or fingering it's butt hole may become an option.

I hope never to be in such a situation and much prefer the banning approach. If you really want a dog as a pet there are plenty of alternatives ...

I have run ins with Bully owners all the time. There's lots in Bristol City Centre. Just last week one said to me 'wait until we see you on your own'.
We were passing on a bridge, my dog 10kgs and on a short leash, his a 60kg beast going absolutely spare. He was telling me to keep my dog under control whilst his dragged him towards us. I don't back down so I was mouthing off at him but realised it probably wasn't a battle I could win.
A dog walking friend is in private security and former SAS, lovely but obviously a very 'hard' chap. He's made it clear, and is very unapologetic, that if one comes anywhere near our dogs (there's a big group of regular small/medium dogs that meet up) that he'll kill the dog. He's definitely not just saying it.
It's makes no sense.

In hindsight I should have done more than mouth off. I haven't seen him before or after but he and his dog are clearly a risk.
I think if I do see him again I'll try and pay a bit more attention to him and investigate reporting his behaviour. Witnesses were a lot more shaken than me and I'm sure it wasn't the first time that kind of thing has happened.

I sat on many cases where owners were prosecuted under the Dangerous Dogs Act and in almost every case the owner said exactly that. The exception being "Yes I know he's done it twice before but he won't do it again".
"No, he won't because we're issuing a destruction order".
Not something we took lightly but this was a dog with a propensity to bite people and an owner that was too much of a f..kwit to stop it. I cannot imagine someone like that having one of these devil dogs.

That would leave us with St Bernards and Labradors.
St Bernards are obviously too big and hairy, so that just leaves Labradors.

If Labradors were the only breed of dog we had, the world would be a much better place.

Labradors and Retrievers, bred for collecting the animals humans have already killed, rather than training the dog to do the killing (Like Jack Russells and Terriers). The small aggressive dog is dangerous to other animals and young children, and shouldn't be given a pass just because of its size.

I think these types of aggressive and powerful built dogs attract ‘ the wrong type of owner ‘ geezers , gang members etc

I would ban Dobermans , pit bulls , bulldogs and all similar types of dogs .

No one needs to own a powerful dog that can easily hurt and in some cases kill children .

There plenty of choice of decent dog breeds like labs, poodles , terriers , sausage dogs. Old English sheepdogs , greyhounds , spaniels etc
