The FIRST to howl and yell from the hilltop in decrying a Labour budget HAS to be the Tories.
Yes, those who "thanked God for Mrs Thatcher" she who deregulated banks in the first place! And he claimed they would "do some things that would not necessarily be popular (yes, he means RAISING TAXES. Except he meant doing it for the poorer sector, not for the rich)

Has everyone commenting on this budget actually had a look at it?
What did Cameron actually say to address the issues - aside from his rhetorical invective about "this government incumbent for the worst recession since the war" or whatever.
Cameron has NOTHING TO SAY!
Fact.

Sure you want to continue with this line? I've just read the rubbish you posted on your "breakdown" thread. Terrible stuff.

I spent two hours in a TV studio at lunchtime doing the budget show with a cross section of the public (pensioner, student, publican, cab driver, bunny hugger, parent with kids and a couple of politicians from both sides). Everyone EXCEPT the politicians spoke sense.

People are constantly patronised by politicians and the media. Anyone but a half wit knows that we are operating in a global economy and it makes bog all difference what New Labour or the Tories do or say in terms of getting us out of the mess unless there is a co-ordinated approach by all major governments.

The constant Ya-Boo-Hiss point scoring mentality of the politicians in the audience panel made me cringe with embarrassment. They are all self serving opportunists who were bullied at school and had no proper friends.

In London village.
Buzzer; Public sector salaries is another target. Historically these were low but especially with the newer bodies salaries are commensurate with the private sector. Therefore generous pensions and holidays should be cut back to the private sector levels. .[/QUOTE said:
Public sector salaries for most employees are modest and the average public sector pension is about 3k. The only people to gain from attacking final salary pensions are the private pensions industry and any one who wants to see massive public sector strikes. Public sector workers did not create this latest crisis of capitalism, why should they pay for it?

I don't mean all public sector workers and I was keen to make the distinction with the new found professional quangos. Take for instance the Pensions Regulator. I know how much they are paid. I helped design the pay model. I can assure you that salaries are very attractive in comparison to private sector let alone JobCentre plus workers or those in local government.

What would be fair is a review of total benefits with a suitable comparison in the private sector for any quangos created after 1997. Especially central government ones.

Dandyman and Mona. I'm well aware how shit pay and conditions are for lots and lots of public sector workers. And how cushy they are for others.

It was never going to be an easy budget. I can't see how the Conservatives would have had a budget that would have been much better, given the circumstances. Though the question then is, would we have been in the situation had they been in power for the past decade.

I am becoming more and more disillusioned with the political system. Watching the behaviour of MPs in the Commons is laughable, and actually rather embarrassing.

Personally, I would havemuch preferred to have had Vince Cable giving the Budget. It is refreshing to have an economist give economic advice rather than Alistair Darling

Well I certainly won't claim to know enough about the situation to join the debate. However what I do know is Darling has just has shreds torn off him by Alan Brazil and Ronni Irani on TalkSport.

What hope have we got when a couple of former sportsmen can get the chancellor on the hop? How's he going to manage in the house?

I can see Brazil as a Thatcher loving Tory :lolol: Just imagine if David Cameron brought him to the front bench:

Brazil 'I'd like to ask the honourable gentleman for his itiniery today'

Brown: 'I'll be meeting the queen at 10.00 and then flying out to Ouagadoogoo to attend the funeral of Queen Ipi Tongo of Swaziland'

Brazil, 'How is she these days'

Brown 'er .....Dead'

Brazil 'Really, oh, sorry I only asked because I'd heard two different versions'

Oow, you can't go around saying that, the Petulengro family are probably tory voters.

In fact the Shadow chancellor was on the telly this morning making predictions that things won't work out, and quelling all optimism.

Being British, I have to agree - we can NOT be bandying around any optimism even for five minutes.

Needless to say Shadow, when asked specifics about what he would have done differently, waffled on immediately, and spoke quickly and firmly about ..er...... what he thought was wrong with the labour plan and how they would do things differently.
So, he was not specific, couldn't be nailed down on anything, and was an excellent, inscrutable ...politician.

The bitchyness becomes you Arthur. :safeway

Why thank you.

Bit rich coming from the bloke who felt the need to patronise everyone by posting the dictionary definition of a word isn't it?

Do carry on with your class war though, I have to say I am enjoying it!

Borrowing £600 billion over 4 years. More than every other government has ever done in history. This is obscene.

It's also double predicted by Darling a few months ago at the Queens speech. Complete shambles. How in fuckity f*** can anyone vote for them?

the others will get their chance next year, won't be a lot different though they are all piggies with their snouts in our trough fighting over who is going to be the better off them or the bankers.
would'nt trust any one of them as far as I could throw them

I'm voting Lib-Dem next summer and If they can't take advantage this time round then they never will.Labour will lose people like me who see them as totally discredited but will not flock to the Conservatives if they have a memory, or don't like Eton clubs.
