Said it before and I'll say it again. Buckley doesn't appear able to retain fitness for more than 2 or 3 games on the bounce, for this reason alone he's simply not worth the potential out lay in wages.
Such a shame as he could be just we'd be looking for if his hamstrings were up to the job.
As for Bridcutt, I liked him as a player and a person before he left under that cloud. However, we have all the centre midfielders we need at present, and i don't think he'd fit in to this current style of play

I don't think hamstrings are a serious problem ? I do not how it effects training if he can't run at full pace when practicing

Wages may well be a problem as he is on £15K + bonuses for Sunderland. Not insurmountable.

I'm not sure the other wingers around (with which we have been linked) are fast enough.

Buckley left before the 1st season with the open Elite Performance Center. I assume the training would now be a lot less stressful on his hamstrings.

Sources close to both clubs are indicating that Leeds United and Sunderland have agreed a deal for the transfer of former Brighton winger Will Buckley to Elland Road. If true, the signing would represent success for United Head Coach Uwe Rosler, who has made no secret of the fact that he has considered his squad short of vital width.

The talk is that this transfer is at an advanced stage, with the deal being agreed between the clubs, leaving it down to United to sort out personal terms with Buckley.

There may well be an update on this story in the next couple of days and possibly as early as tomorrow.

continual hamstring injuries are soft tissue which is usually treatable with a stretching/ specific exercise routine.......not sure what his injury record was like at sunland but if his hamstring situation has not been fixed it would appear to mean it is a permanent/ congenital weakness in which case he's stuck with it........about as much use as a blind goalkeeper...!!.....i for one don't want either of them back.

No Bets on Buckley

The cost of a full-time deal might force Leeds to look elsewhere unless Sunderland agree to loan Buckley with a view to a permanent transfer.

Thta will suit both Buckley and Sunderland. If a club wants Buckley enough they will stump up the cash plus £15K a week. Somehow, with his injury record it seems a risk.

All buying clubs might only want a loan unless they have money to burn.

From the buying point of view, borrow him until January or for a full season (option to buy) mitigates the risk of wasting dosh, wages plus transfer fee. 2 year contract @ £15K a week (or 3 year at £10K a week) + transfer fee is £3 million. Afterwards the he would be a free agent, so amortisation of the full cost of £3 million. With his injury record say 50%, 50 matches x 90 minutes as he will come as a sub for half of them. £60K a game.

Counter: a winner goal in a play-off final worth £75 million.

To my mind there is no point in buying an ordinary winger. We've got enough of them. I would like a speed merchant. Really depends on how he would fit in to the system. And that would how Buckley adapts as I do not go for specialist players. A big risk on potential still there.

I would not mind at all if he signs, as he really stops the opposing left back from coming forward and even on the bench he causes the opposition something to think about. Sunderland will take a loss of £2 million which is peanuts to them. (£104 m turnover compared to the Albions £24 m).

Sunderland will let him go as they have already got a replacement. I bet they will turn down the loan bids though.

Buckley is a player I would fear if we were playing against him. Inconsistent, yes. But a better bet than Calderon. I'd be very pleased if we signed him. Bridcutt can f#ck off.

Bid : if we could get him for a season on loan at £500K (loan fee) plus wages of £1 million with an option to buy, we could keep £1 million in the kitty. Or look elsewhere. Abroad could be risky.
