I think Bridcutt best value over Kayal would be his tendency (not sure of ability) to cover in defence and allowing a central defender to go forward. In all other respects I prefer Kayal. I do not see this as a priority position though, not until we get a right winger, second striker and central covering defender. Even then a left footed midfielder would be better.

What Bridcutt did brilliantly was cover a full back if they ventured forward. Hyypia's marauding FB tactic could've worked if Liam was still here.

I don't think he did it all that well. Buckley was the biggest disincentive to an advancing left back.

Bridcutt looked useful when he was intercepting with the ball ahead of him. Current team plays deep and still not bad at intercepting. My thoughts was that CH would erode the good parts of our play, intercepting, passing, control of passes and not losing he ball in possession. Still a little bit worried but it has only happened a little bit.

There is always a bit of a chance of the losing the ball playing a tricky pass instead of retaining the ball and letting the opposing defence get back. My thinking for quick breakaways we need a speed merchant.

Getting players back after leaving he Albion is rarely successful for any clubs, Zaha excepted. But with Zaha it was like he never left Palace and the same is almost true for Buckley.

Really concerned that people seem to now reckon that Bridcutt did nothing , not good enough. As regards , turn coat , he was a young lad in a job then asked to work for another firm for a lot more money doing the same job.......its a no brainer. What people probably don't realize is that probably some of the issue at the time was about whether he should leave ...If people recall had similar issue with Steven Gerard and a Chelsea move.

If Bridcutt was to come back he would get a cheer from me - assuming he performed to the same level....

Bridcutt fitted in to the total football philosophy that poyet used.Im not sure with our current options in the middle of the pitch he would improve the team.
As for Buckley I think he would improve the team

Bridcutt was very good but I did not think he was PL standard simply because he was not a good enough athlete to cover enough ground on both sides of the pitch. He could get away with his lack of physical attributes in the Championship but he simply was not quick enough to cover enough ground.

For Holla it was just that he was not fit enough last season. The good thing about Ince he has the physical attributes for the job. Now just for the technique and nous.

Buckley is so frustrating, takes him half a dozen games to start to look decent and then 'twang' - its gone again. The only one i would want back is E Bennett.

He did it incredibly well. Bridcutt's greatest strength was his ability to spot danger and his positional awareness. Bridge and Calde/Bruno wouldn't have been able to get forward like they did if it wasn't for Bridcutt covering. They had a licence to roam in the knowledge that he was covering for them.

Bridcutt was a very good player for us, anyone who thinks different is allowing the way he left to cloud their judgement. Would I take him back? No simply because it is not an area we are weak in and because of the way he left.

Buckley decent player but the injuries are a concern. Would I take him back? Yes providing the deal was good, I would not want to pay much if any of a fee for him, especially if we need to match his Sunderland wages. Can't see this one happening myself, but I would not boo him. He wanted the move and agitated for it, but he did not strike like Bridcutt .

It depends. Do they want to play for this club again? It's more relevant to the Bridcutt situation, but I'd take him back if he managed to put the football club first.

No other clubs are interested in them, so why should we be?

Dirty Leeds are reportedly after Buckley.
If he paid attention on the many occasions that Gus saw the need to tell us all what a MASSIVE club they are (as befits the uncrowned champions of Europe!) he will obviously be packing his bags and heading there now

It seems it would possibly be a loan deal with a view to a permanent. But in reality, if it happens, he would spend most of the season out and will return to Sunderland.

Agree. Gardner could not fulfill the interceptor role.

I don't think Poyet played total football. Or the choice of players was wrong!? (especially Mackail-Smith)

Total Football (Dutch: totaalvoetbal) is the label given to an influential tactical theory of football in which any outfield player can take over the role of any other player in a team. It was pioneered by Dutch football club Ajax from 1965 to 1973, and further used by the Netherlands National Football Team in the 1974 FIFA World Cup. It was invented by Rinus Michels, who was the coach of both Ajax and the Netherlands national team at the time.

In Total Football, a player who moves out of his position is replaced by another from his team, thus retaining the team's intended organisational structure. In this fluid system, no outfield player is fixed in a nominal role; anyone can successively play an attacker, a midfielder and a defender. The only player fixed in a nominal position is the goalkeeper.

Or at least the players could not adapt: too many specialists players. I saw that as a bit of a problem.

Buckley not excluded. I was hoping he could adapt his play. He improved his technique (which Poyet liked) but not his overall play and there is room for improvement.

Why I want Buckley back is his pace gives him a unique threat. Secondly, if he plays on form, I would fancy there is always a chance to score against any team we play. We seems to have £1.4 million ready to buy a winger. I don't think Sunderland will want to loan him. And I don't think we should. Purchase.

How soon is now?
Said it before and I'll say it again. Buckley doesn't appear able to retain fitness for more than 2 or 3 games on the bounce, for this reason alone he's simply not worth the potential out lay in wages.
Such a shame as he could be just we'd be looking for if his hamstrings were up to the job.
As for Bridcutt, I liked him as a player and a person before he left under that cloud. However, we have all the centre midfielders we need at present, and i don't think he'd fit in to this current style of play
