I think (hope) ESPN America retains it's own identity as it is the only sports channel I watch. If that has left Virgin along with the UK version I shall be seriously unhappy.

The ESPN channel will mostly show the American sports that were on ESPN America. Virgin still have to agree on a wholesale carriage agreement to carry the BT Sports channels though. Sky was unsuccessful in negotiating a wholesale carriage agreement.

Thanks for that. I shall wait and see what transpires on the handover.

ESPN America will be changing to ESPN (owned by BT) showing their American content and the FA Cup. To get ESPN you have to have BT Sports, no carriage deal with VM has been announced yet but it will be at least £12 per month.

Well Virgin can stick that then. What a rip off. College Pass for me then. It's a real shame as ESPN America has great content, not just college football and hoops but excellent sports documentaries too. If it is £12 then I'll give it a miss unless it gets rebundled with their Sky Sports package.

Is it though? You still have to pay for something to get the football for "free" so it's much like it being on EPSN now which you get free if you get Virgin
I think only if you have the XL pack of channels - I have M+ and don't get ESPN.

Apparently Virgin and TalkTalk will not be showing BT Sports (including ESPN)

I had BT Infinity installed last month so I'm happy.

But how do I watch this on my TV?

I've got an old sky satellite box that I use to watch 'free sat from sky'. Will I be able to pick it up on there?

Delivery will be via broadband , there will be a mobile app so you can watch on a smartphone or tablet , to watch it on TV a YouView or Vision+ box is needed. I don't think you'll be able to watch it through the old Sky box as BT will need an active card in the box to send a signal to which decrypts the channels.

Hahahahah. Michael Owen. It's such a BT-style person to appoint. They literally couldn't get any blander, unless they decide to recreate the WC98 forward line on their punditry team.

If it was me, I would have broken the bank to create my dream line up of: James Richardson, Steve McManaman, G-Nev and El Tel.

BT have got Steve McManaman...

I think you will find it will be on Sky. Indeed if you look at channels 413 and 414 they are there already although its just a 'coming soon' message. Lots of other TV companies use the Sky Card directly, mainly foreign and 'cough' porn channels and they handle the subscription and card activation themselves. Think its a bit steep at £12 a month when ESPN was less than £10 so I think I will probably be out unless we get promoted.

FloatLeft has a Sky box that he uses as a Freesat box. Channels 413 and 414 will indeed show BT Sport 1 and BT Sport 2 but if he has an inactive card in the slot (ie no Sky subscription) I believe an activation signal ain't going to work.

If you decide to watch the BT Sports package via a Sky box but don't have or want to switch to BT broadband there is a £15 activation charge.

It's a bit of a pisser for those of us who can't get BT Broadband though. At least Sky is available to anyone who wants it
