I'm amazed by this thread. OK there's some good shouts here, especially some of the more obscure singers but Sarah Cracknell? PLEASE! Pauline Black? And Sade? God help us. But just to really stir things up I have to point out that as far as I can see the finest UK songstress to emerge in the last 10 years has so far not been mentioned and could this be that you have all allowed the media saturation to cloud your judgement?

a bit hypocritical innit? To slag off some of our choices because (presumably) they ain't cool enough and then accuse us of being too snobby for Amy.
Yep, she's good. Damn good. Not my cup of tea, that's all.
Have you listened to Sade's last album. Trip-hoppy, very personal and she does ahve a great voice. I regard myself as clued up musically but am not ashamed to say when I like something, no matter how uncool it is.
Seriously, it's a great album, she's got a lovely voice and she's a beautiful, friendly person.

AS for Sarah Cracknell - british pop at it's very very best.

Wow, is it her appearance and her lifestyle that prevents you from appreciating her talent? If so, that's a shame.

I have no issue with the fact she looks like Yossi Bennayoun, I just don't like her voice much.

Evanescence ought to pay their dues and acknowledge the influence

Absolutely right - I hadn't considered that before.

AAE were great though - 3 huge guys and this tiny waif-like 'lost little girl' (name that tune?) at the front of the stage.

OK, I haven't heard Sade's latest album so maybe I should. St. Ettienne were very entertaining but any of a thousand singers could have played the SC role - albeit not as good looking I grant you.

Shocking omission. No Bananarama either...

No votes yet for Sinitta or Hazell Dean either.

(This is beginning to sound like the soundtrack to Friday night down Revenge)
:lolol:
