Law should have been stamped down after the first protest went nasty, Sadiq khan and others sympathised with it and so that escalated into vandalism of statues and more violence by people who saw this and knew there were no repercussions, which then caused a group of EDL goons to go and ‘protect’ these monuments because there’s no faith in the police to do it. I don’t blame the police per say more the powers in charge.

All of this during a global pandemic, 2020. What a pile of shit, all we need now is to get relegated to top it off.

So it's all Sadiq Khan's fault, obviously!

What authority has he got over policing in Bristol? where the Colston statue thing happened?

Well no, what led to a police officer needing ‘medical attention’ was one of the ‘peaceful’ protesters throwing a bike at a horse. And what led to the violence yesterday was the police soft hand approach to threats against national monuments that rightly evoke a lot of emotion in people, some of those people just happen to be EDL thugs and bandits who went there looking for a scrap.

Firstly, to clarify, the bike wasn’t thrown at it was rolled towards them. Either way, horrible thing to do but language is important here. Secondly, said bike was rolled at a black horse, the horse that bolted was brown. Thirdly, It’s basic causality. There is video evidence of the police charging at protestors on horseback prior to said accident. Having watched several different videos of the events unfolding, it looks like police were preparing another charge on the lead up to the accident (link to video below). These tactics were only going to increase the likelihood of further violence and I question whether there were proportionate to what had preceded it.

Don't be a tit.

It's just 'others'.

Khan doesn't direct day to day ops at the met

Fair point about Khan, probably worded that badly, I was just disappointed by his response after the first protests last Saturday ended badly, in my opinion the police were very weak in response initially and that has caused this inevitable descent into utter chaos on the streets with people having no respect for the law.

I’ve heard a few police sergeants now say that they’ve simply had to let the vandalism and violence happen because there’s nothing they can do about it and it could incite more problems, it’s a slippery slope towards total anarchy.

How many racist posts have you personally reported, to the mods, over the last week or so?

There does seem to be an abundance of people recently shouting about racist posts on NSC.
I wonder how inundated mod towers is with people claiming posts as racist? Or is it just people screaming "thats racist"......when it really isnt.

as have i. and i didnt say those who want a scrap, the fact is a prostest will only escalate if people want it to. people taking masks (pre-covid), fireworks, flares, ready to throw things, isnt normal peaceful behaviour.
the incident with the horses was not a charge, it was horses walking not even a cantor. the horse bolts reacting to something. the crowd having seen that then attack the mounted police surrounding the fallen rider. go ahead and defend that.

Ok, maybe charge is a slight exaggeration. But we both know it wasn’t a casual walk. I’ve seen the video of protestors and police rushing to help the fallen officer. I mean, I haven’t seen the Daily Mail version but I bet it’s a hoot!

It's like me jumping on a Malmo message board because they've hired a quirky new coach who had some random Portslade connection, obsessively replying to everything on it, deciding I knew better than their fans and thus emailing the CEO wtth my miracle plan and then spending the rest of my time on there posting stuff about the Swedish police and British lockdown system.

In other words, ****ing mental.

Swedish version of Falmer/Hybrid x.....off his trolley on weed.
Im all for open debate and differing opinions but he is a weapon, verging on a troll.

As was the use of horses. I don’t think either side comes off looking particularly good personally. It is possible to see fault in both the protesters and the police response you know...

No alternative. I dont like law and order.
Thieves, robbers and other criminals don't like it either. Nor do idiots. Where would you place yourself in that spectrum?

Tbf I've never met a UK police officer but I imagine they cant be much different from police elsewhere though ........................
Well, that's pretty conclusive evidence......you must be right. Obviously................

I'd take care of it or fail to take care of it and I believe that in a world without police...........
You are Tony Martin and I claim my five pounds.............

.....................and a monopoly on violence, people would be more eager to help eachother in a situation like that.
Welcome to cloud cuckoo land.

There's been so much bollox written by the same people for so long, it's hard to keep track.

Pocketseagull does seem adamant that racist posts are tolerated, so it will be interesting to see how many he's read, not tolerated, so reported.

I don't even agree with Swansman but getting a ban for an opinion about the police seems very harsh when racist posts are tolerated.

Thanks for the reply. I respectfully disagree but also hope the mods will take action when racism is reported.

If you join the dots I doubt it would be hard to find posts from X (who's made a point of telling everyone their political persuasion in every one of their opinions) alluding to some pretty abhorrent views irrespective as to what side of the chamber from which they're yelling.

I haven't reported any because my past experience is that the posts stay up.

Thanks.

It's not often someone is prepared to completely undercut their own argument, esp on here.

think we can agree there to some degree, point is i dont think the horse come in to play until there is already escalation. you think they come out to stir up the crowd. i wonder if you feel the same about their use with the "football" thugs out for a ruck.

Really? I said I was surprised that a user was banned despite racist posts being tolerated and that matches my past experience of reporting posts leading to no action.

Now that a mod has said racism won't be tolerated I'll report any offending posts.

Under the Police Box
Do we have a problem with the softly softly approach the Police are taking at the moment. Notwithstanding the current climate with regard to BLM and a bunch of morons our for a fight against anyone yesterday, is the approach building up problems for the future.

For example, irrespective of the rights or wrongs of the statue of Colston being there in the first place, should the Police have intervened because now it seems it's open season everywhere.

Another example are the raves in Manchester last night which went on until the early hours. Clearly breaching social distancing and the number gathering, the Police seem to take the view it was better to sit back rather than stop it in it's tracks (pun intended). Had they done that there may not have been 3 stabbings, one rape and someone dying from what was believed to be drug overdose. There have been reports of street parties where the Police have turned up in London. I'm sure I read about one where they turned up at 9:30 and eventually dispersed the party at 1:30!! Well that goes down as a success.

Is it weakness at the top of the organisation or are their hands being politically tied?

...or common sense prevailing. Sometimes, the smart thing for the Police to do is stand back, collect evidence and arrest people, quietly, safely, a few days later having identified them on film. Wading it to break up a rowdy mob *can* make things worse and put the Police, the criminals and the public at serious risk.

They may not be right every time but I'd rather they err'd on the side of caution than waded in heavy handed at every instance.
