I just don't get why anyone would POSSIBLY want to "run with the bulls." What on earth are you getting out of that?

Why would anyone want to bunjee-jump ? Or drive at 150mph ? Or steal Tanks KFC ?

Says on the report that this particular bull escaped the main run and got into an area of spectators. So the man may not have been "taking part" as such.

I've just been chatting to a friend of mine from Pamplona and she wasn't aware of this till i told her at about 10am. The Bulls run at 8am, people will get drunk after but it's not the sort of thing done after an all day sesh, strong hangover from 4 days worth of drinking by this stage but that's about it.

I used to carry the same view that many on here do that it was inhumane but when i recently learned what Easy has just said to everyone I'm more accepting of it. Gonna try and head over next year and make my mind up for myself

I did start a previous thread about this 3 days ago. Only 15 people have ben killed since 1924 reportedly, which makes it less dangerous than going to watch a Grand Prix IMHO.

The bulls would die anyway...

I can't see what's hypocritical. Something dying for entertainment is wrong, something dying for food if it's done humanely as possible is fine. It's like saying anyone who has a problem with parading enemy soldiers' corpses or torture but accepts the need for an Army is a hypocrite

Agreed. It's as simple as that for me. I can't agree with animals being killed for fun, full stop. Regardless of quality of life previous.

This is not an either/or as Easy 10 (who I almost ALWAYS agree with) seems to be putting it. Forget the killing to eat for a sec.

Killing an animal for fun IS wrong, agreed?

As soon as that is agreed, arguments about quality of life etc go completely out the window. They become a MOOt point, if you will.

I assume that people who are so vehement about animals dying for people's fun work up a similar head of steam about horse racing, for which animals are bred solely for purpose and then despatched without a second's thought as soon as they're no longer financially sustainable? I know, killing them prematurely isn't the main gist of the activity but that's certainly often the net effect of it if the creatures are unlucky ever to get injured.

Well, what else are racehorses bred for ? OK, racehorses are not ceremonially killed in front of people to provide a spectacle, but ultimately their EXISTANCE is for our "fun", is it not ? Similarly greyhounds. Once they are past their usefulness as a racer, very few of them end up retiring to a loving family to live out the rest of their days. Yet I don't see the widespread condemnation for horseracing / greyhound racing as we do for bullfighting. And the only reason for that, really, is because we don't actually see the horse or greyhound being killed in the end.

Ultimately, it all amounts to the same thing though, dunnit ?
